I fell silent. Cancer? But my mom was always healthy; she's never had any major problems with her body.

"Colon Cancer. Don't worry though, there is a very high chance she can survive." My dad didn't sound convinced when he spoke, but he continued regardless. "About nine in ten people survive after five years of being diagnosed. And the doctor told us everything."

I shot up and raced to put on my shoes, "I am coming there. Is mom doing okay?" I put my phone on speaker and dropped it in my pocket, allowing me more space in my hands to carry anything else I needed.

"I told you she is fine, just stay there."

"What? No! Dad?" I take the phone away from my ear and the screen is black with big letters of "Call Ended."

" I need to go right now," I picked up the rest of my belongings and rushed to the door. As I was turning the knob my body lost its balance and I stumbled back. I look back to find that Marinette had jerked me away from the door.

"Your mom said to stay here. So, you will stay here," She led me towards the couch and sat me down.

"If your mom told you to stay here; there is a good reason. Trust her." Luka added. "Just try to get some sleep; you can even sleep on the couch if you'd like."

I reluctantly agreed, and everyone went back to their sleeping spot. After trying to go to sleep for an hour, I quietly slipped off the couch and stepped out onto the deck. I could not sleep with the news I had just heard. To try to get my mind off of the news, I quietly sang "Just the way you are" to myself.

"You have a great voice. You should think about singing with the band sometime," It took me a few seconds to register the voice but once I did I whipped around.

"Luka! You didn't go to sleep?"

"Nope. I was a bit worried about you. I know how it feels to be worried about a parent."

"How? You never show any signs of sadness."

"I haven't seen my dad since 2nd grade. He sacrificed himself for me," He sighed, looking off the boat.

"What? How?"

"When I was eight, I lived in the US. We lived in a very dangerous neighborhood. One day, some people broke into our house and tried to kill me. My dad jumped in front of me and the bullet hit him instead. He died the next day," He turned back to me with small tears in his eyes, but he quickly wiped them away.

"I am so sorry," I tried to give him a quick hug, but as I tried to pull away he didn't let go.

"I miss him so much..." His voice was drowned out by the flood of tears that followed. I was not an affectionate person, but I didn't mind this so much. He suddenly quickly pulled away.

"Sorry, I don't know where that came from. I shouldn't push all of my emotional stress on you. I barely know you." He looked down in embarrassment.

"Dont be. Its not a problem at all," you paused outside of the doorway before turning back around. "But... Were you serious when you said that I should sing with the band one time?"

He nodded his head vigorously, "If you'd like."

"I- I shouldn't. Rose is still mad at me. I would feel rude to barge into her band like that." I walked back into the boat, and somehow everyone was still asleep.

I laid back down onto the couch, feeling better and ready to fall asleep.

"Girl, you can not be out there with Luka forever and then just fall asleep! Tell us everything!"
