Maverick's discovery about the pilot that Enterprise keeps thinking is him pierces his heart like a bullet from a 50 caliber machine gun. He continues to scroll down the website and sees a picture of Sly Fox standing by the dismantled USS Enterprise (CV-6). He was pictured taking a piece of scrap metal from the shipyard where the ship was drydocked. He scrolls down further to see him standing by an F-5 fighter jet. It was his last time to fly a military aircraft. He was asked to test fly the F-5. After that he is pictured inside the cockpit of a Cesna turbo prop airplane at an airport.

Pretty soon he is hit with a flashback of his ill-fated flight with his late girlfriend Samantha Blakeley. He completely remembers that day when he thought his aircraft didn't show any signs of malfunctioning.

Flashback:

Lt. Cdr. Wilfredo "Maverick" Fernandez is driving towards the hangar with his girlfriend Samantha Blakely. He parks his black Nissan Skyline GTR-34 outside of the hangar. He was still a young lieutenant who was in his second year in the navy.

After he parks his car, he and his girlfriend get out of the car. They both walk up to his Cesna Corvalis 400. They both get in and then Maverick starts the engine.

As soon as they were airborne, Samantha enjoys the view of the sky. Maverick looks at her and sees that she loves the view so much. He makes a few mid high speed flying.

Just when he thought that everything is ok. His plane begins to falter. The engine is beginning to sputter. Pretty soon he loses control of the aircraft. Maverick did everything he could but to no avail. His plane begins to enter a steep dive and is in for a crash landing. His girlfriend Samantha starts to panic. She begins to get hysterical about the situation they're in. Maverick on the other hand continues to struggle with the controls. His aircraft begins to go into a 70 degree angle dive.

Samantha: Doodzki! What's going on?!

Doodzki: The engine died out! I can't control the aircraft anymore!

Samantha: Do something quick! I don't want to die!

Doodzki: I'm trying baby! I'm trying! Oh shit! We're going to hit the ground! Brace yourself baby!

Samantha! Doodzki! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!

Doodzki: Oh no!

The plane crashes hard on the ground. It's wings have broken away from the body. Pretty soon it breaks in half. They were lucky that electrical wiring didn't spark. And the fuel tank didn't rupture. If it happened, they would have been burned to a crisp. Doodzki is the first to wake up. He looks around at his surroundings and sees where they have crash landed. When he noticed that they are faraway from the airport where his airplane is parked. He quickly looks at his girlfriend Samantha. However he is not happy to see the condition of his significant other.

She's totally unconscious yet she's still breathing. But it was very faint. And her pulse was very weak. He sees a piece of metal on her left breast. He then looks at his broken aircraft. Part of its frame had broke loose and pierced his girlfriend's chest. And it directly ruptured an artery. Doodzki quickly pulls out his phone and dials 911. He tells the operator what happened and where is their exact location. Within an hour the emergency medical team comes to their location. They're both brought to the hospital via helicopter.

But it's not a good news for Doodzki when they reached the hospital. His girlfriend is declared D.O.A. or dead on arrival. The hotshot pilot lost the first and only woman he loved so much. And this made him a different person. From an obedient honest to goodness no monkey business pilot. He became what he is right now. An arrogant reckless fighter pilot with a never ending need for speed.

End of flashback.

Maverick: (Looking at the picture of him and his late girlfriend.) "I'm sorry Samantha. I should have checked my aircraft first before taking you for a leisurely flight. Maybe someday we'll see each other again in the afterlife. But for now I will finish my duties here in Azur Lane as the base commander. After that I will send a request for reassignment back to my carrier strike group. I love you Samantha." (Places the photo back in his flight suit.)

Maverick decides to go to his own house which is adjacent to the main headquarters where his office is located. Since it is a few meters away from the office. He decides to walk towards it rather than use the car he rode earlier. Walking long distance is nothing new to him. He just treated it as if it he was walking on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. He reaches his house and sees that it is well tidied up. In his mind he thinks that the girls have expected his arrival.

He fixes his things which he has sent ahead of his arrival in Azur Lane. Seeing that the house has a garage. He pulls out his phone and calls his friend and wingman Lt. Cdr. Johnny "Magnum" Monroe to have his Nissan Skyline GTR-34 delivered to Azur Lane. His friend gamely obliges to his request. He decides to change into something comfortable and places his flight suit in the laundry. Once he's changed he decides to go to the kitchen to see if there's anything to eat and drink. He finds a bag of chips and a few bottles of beer.

He eats and drink what he found and then cleans up. He takes a bath and casually dries himself. After that he dozes off again. Once again he is hit with a memory of the woman he lost. And this time it's the last moment that they spent together when was alive. Tears begin to fall from his eyes as he goes to bed and sleep.
