you keep me within the shadows

hidden from the light of your love

it's not the embrace that i deserve

but i'll take the crumbs that fall

the whispers that hang off your lips

that keep me secret from your world

in the days you stray far from home

do you remember my midnight eyes

searching for shelter in your soul

do you find your peace elsewhere

in another girl's laughter and smiles

i offered you the jewels of my heart

but you wanted more than that

and i am not one to blame

while you're the only one i think of

i lay alone in the comfort of the sheets

but they never bring me solace

i'd rather feel your calloused hands

as the world brings praise upon me

i throw it all away in shame

the liquor of your words is all i want

but it's the one request i cannot get

they crowned me with a silver prize

but all i wanted was your gold
