themes: rejection, coming of age, loneliness
a sea of embraces line the terminals
welcome homes and goodbye forevers
pool together like no difference exists
each marked with tear-stained kisses
my departure booked three years prior
restless nights anticipating its arrival
until a world of nightmares crashes down
neglecting the scribbles of an itinerary
the past carries a bloodied weight
that cannot be consumed in seconds
or emptied by your stern command
but nobody is here to save the day
you look me in the eye as you slash
another open scar left in your wake
the price of winning your own freedom
comes at the loss of an all-consuming love
a love wasted with every passing moment
gasps for air in self-inflicted asphyxiation
left alone for unmedicated resuscitation
the grave will be marked by sole tragedy
watching as friends board two by two
every number dialed in airplane mode
airplanes fly high up in the sky tonight
and i'm left behind at baggage check
