Derek's POV

It's been almost five months since the gala, and Sekai and I have become even closer.

She really is the most amazing woman I've ever met, and I'm ready to make things official.

It had been a few days since I've seen her, and honestly I'm worried. She's hasn't seemed like herself, so right now, I'm headed to her place to check on her.

Walking into her building, I stopped at the front desk to tell them who I was there to see, and he call up to her apartment.

"Good evening, Ms, Morgan. I have a Derek Grantham here to see you, shall I let him up?...Yes ma'am, of course."

Hanging up, he grabbed some kind of card, and started typing on his computer, then swiped it.

"Here you go, Mr. Grantham. Ms. Morgan has requested for me to make you a key card, to her apartment, and you've been added to the guest list, so you may go up." He said, handing me the card.

I've been here a few times, but I was always with Kai, but with her giving me this key she trusts me. I'll do anything to keep her trust.

Walking to the elevator, I swiped the card, then clicked on the eight floor. When I made it there, I walked into her apartment, calling out for her.

"Kai, baby?!"

"In the living room!" She yelled back, but she sounded different.

When I walked in, I saw her sitting on the floor, with a glass of wine, crying, and looking at pictures.

"Baby, what's wrong? What happened?" I asked, sitting on the floor, and pulling her into my lap.

"It h-hurts so bad!" She cried into my chest.

"Do you want me to take you to the hospital?" I asked, looking over her body, but she just shook her head.

Grabbing the picture she was looking at, she handed it to me.

It was a sonogram, dated a few years back.

I didn't know she had a baby.

"Today would've been her third birthday." She said, quietly.

I was hesitant to ask, but I wanted to know.

"What happened, Kai?"

"When I moved to California, it wasn't just to open my practice. It was to have a fresh start. I had left an agonizingly painful relationship, that damn near broke me." She said, before taking a deep breath.

"Kai, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to." I said, holding her hand.

Even though I wanted to know, it was obvious this is a sore topic for her.

"No, I want to tell you. I need to be able to move forward. I really like you, Derek, and I don't want to hide a big part of myself from you." She said, rubbing her thumb over my hand.

I'm glad she trusts me enough to tell me, because I like her just as much.

"His name is Keone. I had dated him for four years, and in the beginning it was great. I had fell in love with him, and I thought he felt the same for me, but I was wrong. Throughout our relationship, all he did was cheat, lie, and manipulate. I had left so many times, but he always came crying at my door, feeding me more bullshit and lies. I thought he had changed, but he had only gotten better at hiding. The last year of our relationship was when shit really got bad. I had found out I was pregnant, and I was so fucking happy. I had always wanted to be a mother, and I thought it was finally my time to pick out names, decorate a nursery, feel the little kicks of a life growing inside of me. Bit, two months into my pregnancy, my mom passed away from breast cancer, and it happened so suddenly, because she didn't tell me, she had it. I had to deal with the loss of my mom, on my own, because Keone was nowhere to be found. He had always said she was like a mother to him, but he didn't even show up to the funeral. When he finally did show up, it was three days after I buried her, and we got into this huge argument, where he stormed out. I was under so much stress and grief, I started having stomach pains, and I started bleeding. Luckily, I was at work at the hospital, when I passed out, but when I woke up, I found out I had a miscarriage. The hospital tried to get in contact with Keone, but he wouldn't pick up the phone. I had to deliver my dead baby by myself, and watch as they took her away from me. I had wanted a girl so bad, that I just assumed that's what she would've been. After I was released from the hospital, I had stayed at my mom's house for a few days, just looking through all of her things, but when I finally decided to go home, I walked in on him with the woman he previously cheated on me with. But, the worse part was that she was pregnant, with his baby. He had been playing house, and building a life with someone, who literally wished death on him, and I was grieving the death of my mother and my baby. I had already had a job offer to move out here, but I was gonna decline it, because I thought I was gonna start a family, but that turned to shit. So, I packed everything I needed, and left. I started going to therapy, to work through my trauma, and life just started falling into place. Then, a couple years later, I met you, and it's like every bad thing I ever experienced was just a figment of my imagination. I didn't think it was possible, but, you've brought me happiness, whether you realize it or not. And I want to thank you for that. I had forgotten how it felt, to genuinely smile, and just live." She said, looking deeply into my eyes.

She was such an amazing woman. She had been through so much, but still had found a way to push through, without anyone's help. I didn't know what to expect when I came over here, but she just made me fall even deeper for her.

She had left me speechless, but I responded the only way I knew how.

Gently holding her chin, I pressed my lips to hers. I slightly caught her off guard, but without missing a step, she melted into the kiss, pulling me closer. Her lips were so soft and sweet against mine. The way we molded together perfectly, was like we were meant for each other.

I swear to the heavens above, I seen fireworks, and my heart was damn near jumping out my chest.

"I love you, Sekai." I said, pulling away, resting my forehead against hers.

I don't care if she said it back or not, but it felt so right for me to say it.

"Do you mean that?" She asked, and I could see her eyes watering.

"Every word, baby. I'm in love with you. Hell I knew I loved you, when you first walked into Cam's appointment. I told him, I was gonna make you his auntie, and I meant it. So yes, Sekai Maryse Morgan, I love you." I said, bringing this bright ass, beautiful smile, to her face.

"Well, Derek James Grantham, I love you, too. I look forward to being Cam's auntie." She said, before kissing me again.

I got my woman.
