3rd Person POV
"Hey Marsha, do we have anymore appointments, today?" Sekai asked her receptionist.
"No ma'am. That was actually the last scheduled appointment, for the day." Marsha said, looking through the appointments on her computer.
"Thank God. It's been such a long day, but I'm glad we're getting more patients in. Hopefully, in the next year or so, we'll be able to expand the practice and hire some more nurses." Sekai said, taking a seat.
It's been almost two years, since Sekai moved to California, and nearly nine months, since she started her own pediatric office.
Today had been one of her busiest days, with 26 appointments. Most of the kids she seen, were coming in for their yearly flu shots or checkups, and a few that needed new casts. She was so happy it was Friday evening, so she could go home and rejuvenate, from the long week.
"What's the schedule looking like, next week? I need to mentally prepare."
Looking through next weeks appointments, Marsha responded.
"We are looking at a total of 61. We have five new patients coming in, and the rest are our regular patients. It looks like our favorite one will be visiting us."
"Aw little Camron. He's the sweetest little thing. I have to make sure I fill up the candy jars. What are his parents bringing him in for?" Sekai asked, with a smile on his face.
"The usual check up, a physical, and flu shot, and it will be Wednesday afternoon." She said, exiting out of the computer.
"Alright. Well since we're all done for the day, I'll call the cleanup crew to come sanitize everything, and we can head out." Sekai said, going to her office to make the call.
When she was done, she headed to her penthouse, on the other side of town. After cooking herself some dinner, Sekai relaxed in a nice bubble bath, with a glass of wine, reflecting on how she's gotten to this point.
The last two years, had been the first time she's put herself first, and thought about what she wanted. It wasn't easy, but it was damn sure worth it.
She still has her moments where she thinks about Keone, and what he's doing with his life, or if he's still the same. Although she doesn't miss him like she used to, she misses someone being there. More importantly, she wants someone to want her, as much as she wants them. To be loved unconditionally and valued, and to share a life with them, where their happiness is limitless.
"Patience, Sekai. It'll happen, when it's supposed to." She tells herself, looking out of the floor to ceiling windows in her bathroom, that overlooks the city.
After another hour soaking in the tub, Sekai gets out drying herself, and putting on a silk two piece pajama set. Just as she was putting her glass away, her phone started ringing.
"Hello?" She answers.
"Hey Kai, how are you?"
Looking at the caller ID, she saw it was one of her friends, Lauryn. Sekai met Lauryn two months after she moved to Cali, at a meeting, and they hit it off right away.
"Hey, Lauryn. What's going on?" She asked, kind of confused by the late call.
"Pretty good, but I do have a favor to ask. I know it's late, and you don't like last minute things but, next week there's this charity gala, for a non profit organization, and I want you to be my plus one." Lauryn asks, hoping for a yes.
"Lauryn, you're lucky I love you. Yes, I'll be your plus one, but what is the organization for? I can't just attend, and have no knowledge of what's going on." Sekai said, while getting under her sheets.
"It's for a new place for children and young adults, in low income houses, to go after school or when their parents have to work. It will also be for students, to come learn things that they aren't being taught in public schools. They'll be investing in new text books and computers, so everything they'll be learning, will be up to date." She said.
Sekai was already invested, seeing as she works with kids everyday, and the school system does the bare minimum, to teach these kids anything. All they care about, are sports and cashing checks, never about if the student are actually learning anything. She also, couldn't stop herself from thinking about, if this was a place her lost child would have liked to went to, when they were older. But, before she could go down that road, she quickly replied to Lauryn.
"Well I'll definitely be there to support, and I might even donate to the cause. You know I love kids. Just text me everything about the event, and I'll be there."
After hanging up, Sekai was finally able to relax, looking forward to a peaceful weekend.
