Jaiden gasps for air, as everyone rushes to Jaiden’s and Emily’s sides. Maddie examines Emily, then her eyes widen. The black splotch was starting snake it’s way up to her shoulders.

 

“We gotta find that cure, and FAST.” Maddie said. Everyone else nodded.

 

“Uh, hello?! Someone who was just strangled over here!” Jaiden rasped. Maddie rolled her eyes.

 

“You’re fine Jaiden.” She said. Suddenly, Emily’s eyes shot open, and she started coughing uncontrollably. “Emily! Are you ok-” Emily leaned over and threw up black goop.

 

“What’s-cough-happening-cough-to me?!-cough-.” Emily rasped between coughs.

 

“It’s getting worse.” Maddie said putting her hand on Emily’s shoulder examining the black splotch. Then, she immediately took her hand off. The splotch was BURNING hot. “We need to keep going.” She says.

 

“Guys.” Jaiden says standing by Mikaila. “Mikaila’s.....dead...” Everyones heads snap towards where Mikaila lays, still, on the floor at Jaiden’s feet. Eyes wide, Emily quickly scooted backwards, horrified at what she’d done.

“I..I didn’t mean to. I swear. I couldn’t control it. I’m so sorry. Everything was just black and I couldn’t do anything! It was like something completely just pushed me out of my own body!” She rambled.

“So like an out-of-body experience?” Ethan asked gently.

“Yes!” Emily struggles to her feet. “Exactly! It was like I was a bystander, watching what I was doing as if I was someone else.”

“Maybe not being able to control it is a side effect of the possession. It might be worth it in some cases. Like if you were alone, and in a lot of trouble, you could just kill everyone, and walk out of there like nothing happened, because you’ll have no idea what actually happened.” Maddie said. Emily looked back at Mikaila.

“Is she really dead? Like, gone for good?” She asked looking at Maddie with sad and desperate eyes. Maddie sighed trying to find a way to answer without making Emily feel bad.

“Well, yes, until we defeat Joey.” Maddie answered. Emily looked at Mikaila, then back to Maddie.

“You guys have to go on without me.” She said flatly looking at the floor.

“No, Emily you have to come with us if you want the cure.” Kayla said.

“Then, I may as well just kill you all now.” Emily said back.

“Emily, if you stayed here, we’d be too late getting the cure to you, AND, that makes you a perfect target for Joey.” Ethan said. Emily sighed.

“No, I can’t.....” Emily protested.

“Emily, please.” Maddie pleaded. Emily paused.

“At least keep your weapons drawn.” She said angrily walking ahead of them. They kept walking.
