Everyone in a five mile radius heard that scream. No except Maddie, Kayla, and Ethan knew it was Emily’s.
“Emily!” Ethan cried out, running to where the last scream was heard. He blocked out all other noises and focused on finding Emily.
“Ooof.” He breathed as someone knocked into him, sending him to the ground. He fumbled for the knives at his belt, regretting that he dropped his others when he heard Emily. He finally pulled one out, but the person was already standing, aiming a familiar bow at his heart. He knew the girl. He also knew that she never missed a shot.
“Maddie! It’s me!” He said, frantically. She sighed in relief and lowered her bow. Helping him up, she started sprinting towards the direction of Emily’s scream. Ethan quickly followed after her. They stopped at a clearing just as Kayla came crashing through the undergrowth. All that was left of Emily was her crossbow, a couple arrows, and a ripped piece from the bottom of her shirt. Maddie picked up her crossbow and arrows carefully. She looked it over once. She had fired it at something. What that something was, we’ll have to find out later.
“We have to find her.” Ethan stated frantically.
“Don’t you think I know that!?” Maddie snapped angrily. She picked up the crossbow and slung it over her back. She quickly put the arrows into her own sheath, and tucked the piece of Emily’s shirt into her pants pocket. Then, without looking at anyone else, walked back towards the school. She could feel the eyes burning into her back, shocked, but she kept walking until she reached the doors of her school. Ethan and Kayla were just stepping out of the forest when they heard glass smash. They looked towards the door and saw Maddie, back in her regular clothes, smashing open a door window with her fist. She shook her hand in the air and opened the door on the inside.
“It was locked.” She yelled over her shoulder, before walking inside the school, as if she hadn’t just shattered bullet proof glass with her fist. When Ethan and Kayla got closer, the window started to put itself back together. Kayla quickly ran up and put her arm through the hole before it closed and opened the door. She pulled her arm out just as the last chunks of glass fell into place. They looked at the horrific scene.
“It’s-It’s not....Possible....” Ethan breathed. The entire school had been turned into zombies.
