Chapter 8

She sprinted down the hallway, using her wolf senses to hear where the clang of metal hit together.

“Why…do they…always get…into…fights where…their weapons…are…useless!!” Maddie yelled between heavy pants. The clashing was getting louder. They were almost there! They skidded around a corner and were immediately thrust into the battle. Maddie quickly put an enchanting spell on everyone else’s weapons so that they could kill the ghosts. Emily and Kayla didn’t look too good. They both scares on their faces, and blood stained their clothes. Maddie hurriedly joined the fight, and soon the Skeleton Ghosts had vanished. Everyone was breathing hard, and leaned on the trees around them.

“Everyone...okay?” Maddie asked, out of breath.

“We are now.” Kayla breathed. It took a little bit for Maddie to start breathing normally again. When she finally caught her breath, she glared at Emily and Kayla.

“What in the wild world of zombies were you thinking?!” She yelled. “Don’t you know that your weapons would be useless?”

“Hey. I didn’t think it was gonna take that long for Jaiden to find you!” Emily protested. Maddie rolled her eyes.

“Lets head back to the school. We don’t have much time left before Joey goes psycho and destroys our house of learning.” Maddie says as she stands up and starts walking back towards the school. Everyone quietly follows behind. When they get to the doors, Maddie punches the glass and opens the door. Everyone readies their weapons and quietly walks throughout the heavily damaged school. Suddenly, Maddie and Emily fall to the ground. Maddie twitches before shifting into her wolf. Emily lays there, unmoving except for breathing.

“Emily!” Kayla shouts.

“Shh!” Jaiden whisper yells. Maddie nudges Emily’s shoulder with her muzzle before snapping her head up and growling. She sniffs the air and quickly motions as best as a wolf can for Jaiden and Kayla to carry Emily to the nearest classroom. At first, nothing happened, then, everything exploded. Emily started to levitate off the ground. Her clothes turned black, and morphed into a black pants, black tank top, and a long black cloak that flowed down her back. Her hair turned long, and black, and the whites of her eyes disappeared into a soulless abyss of darkness. Everything around her shook and the walls started to crumble, and break. Jaiden and Kayla stepped back as she slowly started to return to the ground. The second her back touched the floor, she gasped and sat up. Everyone jumped and stumbled backwards. She looked around slowly, examining everything.

“What were you?” Kayla mumbled.
