I was sent home

Ever since their talk it seemed as if time had flown by. One day they had still just talked about their future, how they would handle things and the next thing Stevie knew was that she sat in a plane to New York. If she hadn't promised Vanessa she was going to spend the holidays with her, she would have been on a plane back to LA. And all the while she couldn't keep her mind  from wandering.

Lindsey had gone to LA, spending the holidays with his family, which - much to Stevie's dismay - included Kristen as well. She understood why he did so and hadn't joined her in New York. And Stevie wouldn't make him choose between her and his children. But that didn't mean that she was happy about knowing that her boyfriend - though she thought it was highly ridiculous to still call Lindsey her boyfriend, they were in their sixties after all - spent a whole week at the same place as his soon to be ex - wife. For the sake of peace she coped.

Christmas had come and gone and two days after it she couldn't take it anymore. She had talked to Vanessa, and after a lengthy conversation, Stevie had finally given in. Despite promising she was going to stay for the whole break, she was on her way to LA the next day.

When she stepped out of the airport, Stevie wished she had given in and allowed Lindsey to pick her up instead of Karen. She would have never guessed, but she had missed Lindsey terribly during the week they had been apart.

"I thought you wouldn't come back?" Karen tried to get an answer out of her.

"I was sent home." Stevie replied shortly, somehow glued to her phone.

Taking another short side glace at her, Karen shook her head. There were two things that were highly uncharacteristic for her boss. First Stevie was quiet, talking only when absolutely necessary. And second she had been typing on her phone the whole time.

"Do I have to threaten you to take your phone away now?"

"Why?" She snapped out of her thoughts.

"Because you're not talking and I still don't know why you're here." Karen explained. "And I'm suspecting that this thing in your hands is the reason for it."

"I'm sorry."

Lowering her head Stevie tried to hide her face. She felt how the blood rushed into her cheeks, making them burn with embarrassment. After all the years she had said that she wouldn't use her cell phone except in cases of emergencies, she was now just as bad as all the other people. As soon as she had been apart from Lindsey for more than a couple of hours, she had turned into a love sick teenager.

"Are you going to tell me why you were sent home?"

"Obviously cause I had been in LA with my head anyway."

"Oh really? I wouldn't have noticed." Karen asked, sarcasm clearly in her voice.

"Funny."

Whatever she might have been about to say was interrupted by her phone vibrating, telling her that she had just gotten another message. Stevie still couldn't believe it, but somehow being with Lindsey, and being away from his this long so early in their rekindled relationship, had made her appreciate this for of communication for the first time. Or at least for more than just making a booty call every once in a while.

"Stevie?"

"What?"

Oh god how old is that woman, Karen once more thought. Was she happy to finally seen Stevie back with Lindsey, obviously happy and in love again? Of course. But this relationship was going to take the rest of her, either way it was going to go. If this lasted she was going to be constantly surrounded by Lindsey, and needing to deal with a teenager in love for the first time version of her boss from now until forever. Or this relationship was just going to go as last time, and then Karen would need to pick up the pieces again. Either way, she already dreaded it.

"Where home."

Not waiting for anything else, Stevie got out of the car and made her way into her condo, not waiting for Karen to follow. Only to find it completely empty.

"Where's Lindsey?" She asked when her assistant came in as well.

Here we go again... and she hadn't even been through the door completely.

"He's coming over in the evening."

"Oh."

Hearing this Stevie slumped down on the couch, disappointment written all over her face. She had hoped to find him here when she arrived. Now she was just worrying again, hoping that Kristen wasn't trying to get in the way again.

Is he going to be there or not? Who knows... Have a great day you all. Love, Dani
