Jacqueline Frost is cleaning tables in the small diner she works at when her friend, Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes walks in. The dark haired soldier looks around the diner before spotting the brunette as she talks to a kind elderly man sitting in the booth next to the table she is wiping down. He walks up to the brown haired woman, who asks the older man if he wants more coffee. The man replies with a 'yes, please' before the soldier greets her, "Hey, doll. Your shift almost done?"

Jacqueline looks up at the soldier and smiles at him while saying, "Bucky! You're here early."

Bucky lets out a chuckle as he replies, "Jackie, I'm right on time."

Jacqueline glances over at the clock on the wall before saying, "Oh, you're right. My shift ends in a couple minutes and then I'm all yours before I have to help Mr. Stark at the Exposition tonight."

Bucky rests his elbows on the bar and asks the girl, who walks over to the coffee machine to grab the hot pot of coffee, "How did you even start working for Howard Stark in the first place?"

Jacqueline looks over at Bucky and smirks while saying as she walks back over to the elderly man's table, "A girl never reveals her secrets, Buck." Bucky lets out a laugh as Jacqueline pours coffee into the man's cup, "There you go Mr. Elliott."

The old man smiles up at the girl as he thanks her, "Thank you very much, young lady."

Jacqueline smiles at Mr. Elliott as she turns and heads back to the coffee machine, talking to Bucky as she walks, "I also have the four tickets to the Exposition that you asked for. My neighbors, Connie and Bonnie cannot wait to go on the double date that you have planned tonight." She places the pot of coffee back on the machine. She pauses before she turns around and accusingly asks the soldier, "You did tell Steve about the double date tonight, didn't you?" Bucky hesitates to answer, giving the brunette all the answers that she needs. "Bucky!"

The soldier sighs as he speaks up, "I know, I know. I'm gonna tell him tonight, right before the Exposition."

Jacqueline gives Bucky a disapproving look before she glances up at the clock, noticing that her last shift of the week has just ended. She removes the apron and walks into the kitchen, hanging the cloth up before putting on her coat. She grabs her hand bag as she says farewell to the kitchen staff. She walks out of the kitchen and says her goodbyes to the other waitresses, who only stare at the attractive sergeant. Jacqueline even says goodbye to Mr. Elliott as Bucky leads her out of the diner.

Jacqueline's apartment building is only a ten minute walk away from the diner, so the two friends decide on taking a nice stroll. Bucky links his arm with Jacqueline as the soldier talks about how he has received his orders and is leaving for war the next day. Along the way, they see a paperboy selling a paper. Bucky stops, causing Jacqueline to stop alongside him. The dark haired soldier pulls out three cents to pay for the paper before the two continue their walk to Jacqueline's apartment.
