"Alrighty kids gather round everybody!" Hagrid boomed. All the Gryffindor's and Estelle huddled to the front of the gate whilst the Slytherins stood behind sneering at El.
"Now, firs' thing yeh'll want ter do is open yer books-" Hagrid called out before being rudely interrupted by Malfoy.
"How?" Said the cold drawling voice of Draco.
"Eh?" Hagrid grunted.
"How do we open our books?" Malfoy repeated slower than before. He took out his copy of 'The Monster Book of Monsters, which he had bound shut by a length of rope. Other people took theirs out, too; some like Box dye boy over there had theirs tied shut whilst some had their copies crammed inside tight bags.
"Hasn'- hasn' anyone bin able ter open their books?" Said Hagrid, looking slightly crestfallen. The class shook their heads.
"I-I have..." El stuttered. Harry looked at her with admiration whilst everybody else looked at her with envy. Her book was already open so she grabbed Harry's copy and ran her delicate finger down it's spine, and the book shivered, and then it fell open and lay quietly in her hands.
"Oh, how silly we've all been!" Draco sneered. "We should of stroked them! Why didn't we guess!"
"I... I thought they were funny..." The Gigantic man said uncertainly to Estelle.
"Oh tremendously funny!" Said Malfoy. "Really witty, giving us books that try to rip our hands off!" This was the last straw for Rose she didn't like the way he was acting towards Hagrid, if he continued for any longer he wouldn't live to tell his father about this.
"Shut up, Malfoy" said Harry quietly. Hagrid was looking downcast and Harry wanted his first lesson to be a success.
"Righ' then" Hagrid sighed. "so... so yeh've got yer books an'... an'... now yeh need the Magical Creatures. Yeah. So I'll an get 'em. Hang on..." He strode away from them into the Forest and out of sight
"God, this place has going to the dogs," Said Malfoy loudly. "That oaf teaching classes, my father'll have a fit when I tell him-" It made El snap.
"Shut up, Draco. Before I give you something to cry about." She snapped, matching his volume.
"Careful, Black, there's a dementor behind you-"
"Oooooooh!" Lavender squealed, pointing towards the opposite side of the paddock. Without thinking she pulled out her wand and shouted the incarnation, "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" An eerie thestral jumped out of her wand, it then ran into Malfoy making him fall back it then pranced to where Lavender was pointing to. Instead of a dementor a beast with the body and hind legs of horses, but the front legs winds and head of an eagle, stood there. Her patronus went to the beast and then played with it until it tuned to vapour.
"Wow" The green eyed boy whispered, tightening his grip on her other hand.
"Hippogriffs!" Hagrid roared happily, waving a hand at them. "Beau'iful, arn' they?" Once you had got over the initial shock of seeing something that was half horse, half bird, you started to appreciate the Hippogriffs' gleaming coats, changing smoothly from feather to hair, each of them a different shape and shade of grey.
"Now, firs' thing yeh gotta to know abou' Hippogryffs is they're proud." Hagrid said. "Easily offended, Hippogriffs are. Don't ever insult one, 'cause it might be the last thing yer do." Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle weren't listening; they were talking in an undertone and Estelle had a nasty feeling her cousin wouldn't let this class be peaceful.
"Yeh always wait fer the Hippogriff ter make the firs' move." Hagrid continued. "It's polite, see? Yeh walk towards him, and yeh bow, an' yeh wait. If he doesn' bow, then get away from him sharpish, 'cause those talons hurt."
"Right - who wants ter go first?" Most of the class backed away, everybody except Estelle and Harry.
"Good lad, Harry!" Hagrid congratulated, not noticing El so she shifted backwards; accidently snapping a twig.
"Er- You to Estelle." Hagrid added. "Let's see how yeh get one with Buckbeak." He untied one of the chains, pulled the grey Hippogriff away ferom his fellows and slipped off his leather collar. The class on the other side of the paddock seemed to be holding it's breath. Malfoy's eyes were narrowed maliciously.
"Easy, now, Harry 'n El" said Hagrid quietly. "Yeh've got eye contact, now try not ter blink to much..."
'Why did Hagrid have to notice me...'
Buckbeak bowed down at the teens, and Estelle sunk back into the crowd of kids before Hagrid could go any further.

It was the end of the day and Rose was exhausted. Draco, the fool he is, got himself scratched by the Hippogriff and made it a big deal. She couldn't believe she made a friend, especially after many people made it very clear she isn't wanted: the glares, the whispers and the rumours; She once killed a man, she helped her father escape or even she slipped Harry Potter a love potion.
It was time for dinner once again. El went to sit at the Gryffindor table with Harry when she received some nasty glares from Hermione, Ron, Seamus, Dean and Neville. Harry hadn't noticed her presence yet and continued his conversation with Ginny.
"So- you and Black." The red headed girl started.
"N-no nothing like that. Ew why would you think that." Harry stuttered turning red. Ginny had an accomplished look on her face. El started to walk away tears threatening to fall, her cheeks felt red. When she arrived at the Slytherin table Malfoy had a smug look on his face, it was strange for someone who was 'brutally' beaten up by a Hippogriff.
"I see you and Potter have become closer." He sneered with a suggestive look on his face. He then noticed the single tear which fell down her face, like a thin river meeting its end; ingested by her white blouse.
"Potter did this didn't he!" The blonde hissed through gritted teeth. "Didn't he!" Rose simply nodded.
"I'll sort him out, don't worry..." Draco added vaguely.
Hi! If I'm being honest I'm losing confidence and determination to write :( I might go on a hiatus...
