I walk into chemistry and walk over to Mrs.Stone as she is writing down todays agenda on the board.
"Mrs.Stone" I say quietly because i'm immediatly intemidated by her "Can I go to the guidance office i need to talk to Mrs.Foster"
This earns me a look from Mrs.Stone "Already want to switch out of my class? Some people aren't made for AP classes. Go ahead" she says handing me a hall pass.
I walk out the door almost bumping into Nathan. I look away and as I do I see he's about to say something to me. I walk away from him. He's the reason i'm doing this. Not that i can't handle AP. I walk down the hallways which are mostly clear minus the few people trying to get to class before the bell. I walk into te guidance office and am immediatly met by the cool air from the air conditioner.
I walk up to the desk and sign the clipboard. "I'm here to talk to Mrs.Foster." I tell the secretary
She doesn't look up from her work but says "Do you have an appointment? You'll need an appointment to see her look behind you you're not the only one with a schedule problem."
I turn around and see a bunch of other people who like me want to change their classes. "Oh. \Well can i make an appointment then?" I make an appointment for later in the day. I walk back out to the hallway and I don't want to go back to class. I walk around the halls and go to the bathroom. I put my bag down and walk over to the mirror.
Stalling, I start to wash my hands. I hear one of the stall doors open. The click of heels against the floor was agonizingly slow. Why does it matter who's in here? It's unlikely that it's even someone i know. After all it is a big school. A figure comes into view in the mirror. Standing behind me with a smirk is the one and only Sophia Price.
She looks like she's plotting something in her head. She walks over to the sink next to mine and I try to finish washing my hands while ignoring her next to me. i walk over to grab some paper towels to dry my hands and i hear the water stop and Sophia make her way over to get paper towels. I'm a step ahead of her and walk to the garbage throwing away the paper towels. Again she's right behind me.
I walk over to grab my books when finally it happens.
"Hayley, Hayley, Hayley. What a coincedence bumping into eachother!" The evil smirk turned to a never faltering evil smile. "I was meaning to talk to you. So how was your weekend? AFTER you stormed out on me of course!" Her voice was sweet and if you didn't know better and overherd you would think it was just two friends having a normal conversation, with the normal friend drama. But I know better and can easily pick up on the thickly veiled emotion behind the words. Hate.
"It was good thank you." I say grabbing my books. Without turning towards her I say "Now I should really get back to class."
"Wait." she hissed "You and me both know that's not true. Now we need to chat. Girl to Girl, friend to friend."
"I don't know what you'd have to talk to me about" i lie "but i'm sure whatever it is can wait."
"I'm afraid not. So since you're in a bit of a rush i'll make this short. Stay away from Nathan. I want to make sure it's clear in your mind that when i tell you to get your slutty little hands off of Nathan I mean it. Now let me paint you a picture, just to make sure you understand. Let's imagine that you and Nathan get together. Now obviously people start to look at Nathan differently but he's such a great guy that he convinces people of your greatness and you're accepted into his group of friends and by default the whole school looks at you with a sort of jealousy, envy even. Now people start talking. About me the sad ex who is heartbroken. It's a sob story and with a little help it can be even sadder." She takes something out of her bag and holds it up for me to see.
Pictures. Of me. And Nathan. And they do NOT look good. she flips through the pictures and I just stare open mouthed. "Those pictures... they're photoshopped! How did you get them anyway?"
Her reptilian smile will probably haunt me for a long time "My fathers an important man Hayley darling. He knows important people. I'm extremley well connected. And look closely at these pictures. They sure don't look photoshopped. And who's going to believe you over me? You're a NOBODY! Always have been always will."
"W-What about Nathan? Huh? He knows they're fake people will believe him!" I say trying not to show that her threats actually got to me.
"Aww. That's cute. So two things my dear Hayley. One these pictures are pretty convincing and I just so happen to have a ton more. I could start a whole facebook page of them! And two Don't be so sure Nathan will be around to stand up for you." She says sweetly
I stare wide eyed, mouth open. Shocked. I ignore the first part but the second... "What do you mean he won't be around to stanf up for me?" I hold my breath as I wait for her answer.
"Well you'll just have to wait and find out" She says with a smile and a wink "Well I've got to get to class. The 'I went to the wrong class' excuse only works for so long" She walks past me bumping her shoulder against mine with more force then I thought possible from a girl of her size. I wait until i hear the door close before walking out and back to chemistry. All i feel is numb. Nothing. Not fear or sadness or anger just nothing.
