I walk hand in hand with Nathan as he guides me through the streets. Where to? I don't know yet. Neither of us says anything, but it's a comfortable silence. I try to figure out what to say Nathan and I feel like it might be better not to even mention Aidan to Nathan.

After we walk a little longer we're at a small park and Nathan finds us a bench under some trees. We both sit down and I look up at the sunlight that filters through the leaves and then to Nathan. "Hayley," he starts "Why were you running and crying before? What happened?"

"It's nothing. It doesn't matter." I look down towards my feet. I can't make myself tell him what happened!

"i know that's not true just as much as you do. You know you can trust me. Please?" he asks and I can hear the concern in his voice. He puts his hand over mine "I saw you go home with Aidan today."

Startled I look up at Nathan. "What? How?" Was he following me?

"Well when I tried to talk to you after school and you walked away I followed you thinking I could stop you before you left. Then I saw you walk out of the school with Aidan and get into his car." He says turning a little red. "I know Aidan. We used to be really good friends but now he's a jerk. I got mad when I saw you with him, I didn't want him to do anything to you. Maybe I was jealous. I thought you were choosing him over me. So I took the long way home so I could pass his house. Then I saw you and I know he did something to you. The worst part was that I couldn't protect you and I couldn't call you mine."

I stand up from the bench and go to run my fingers through my hair but remember I can't because it's braided. I take a few slow steps forward and then turn and face Nathan. "OK. You're right he's a huge jerk and a creep. I don't know why I let myself go with him. And I almost didn't stop anything from happening." at this Nathan stands up and starts to walk slowly over to me. "Now I'd rather not get into details... but the thing that was on my mind was that you would just go back to Sophia and this would be all over."

Nathan's in front of me now and he puts one hand on my lower back pulling me towards him. I feel my heart start beating quicker. His other hand caresses my cheek. "Hayley, Sophia means nothing to me. You're what's important to me now. Please. Please! Just give us a chance." his voice is no more than a whisper and before I can even answer his mouth is on mine.
