Chapter 23

 I slowly make my way back to chemistry. When i walk in everyone in the room is partnered up. Mrs.Stone motions me towards her desk. I walk over to her and notice who Nathan is partnered with. Aubrey Blake who just happens to be one of Sophia's close friends... She has herself positioned next to Nathan in a way that they were almost, but not quite, touching. She leaned towards him with a fake interest in everything he was saying.

 "So you decided to come back?" Mrs. Stone asks.

"Well not exactly..." i mutter

"That's alright. But while you are here you nee to do some work.Let's see..." Her gaze wanders around the room "Ah. Aidan doesn't have a partner why don't you go join him." Mrs.Stone points to a guy who looks vaguely familiar sitting at the table in front of Nathan and Aubrey.

 I grab the work packet from Mrs.Stone and walk over to the desk. Aidan looks up at me. "Umm... Mrs.Stone said you don't have a partner and that I um... I should work with you..." Oh god. I sound like an idiot!  Smile! I yell at myself silently. 

 "Okay..." he says looking up but he obviously could care less about me. "Hayley right?" he says

 "Umm... ya." I give him a shy smile which he returns "And you're Aidan right?" I sit down in the chair next to him adnd take a sideways glance towards Nathan behind me. He looks like he's trying to ignore me and Aidan but his posture says he saw us, and that he doesn't like seeing me talking to Aidan. Aww he's jealous that's so cute!!! OMG!! Stop Hayley! I can't be thinking like this. He's Sophia's and I can't compete with that.

 "Ok. Shall we start then?" Aidan asks and I nod. "Ok so this is what I've done so far. It's all review from last year. You took bio right?"

 "Ugh. Ya. Bio. Don't remind me!" I say with a laugh at the end which causes Aidan to give me a smirk and a head shake.

 We work through the period with the occasional sarcastic joke from me and mockingly disapproving look form Aidan. The whole time though, I am painfully aware of Nathan behind me. The bell rings and me and Aidan aren't even close to finished.

 "For any of you who haven't finished you must arrange a time with your partner to finish this. Remember this is your first grade of the year and every grade will count! Now if you plan on getting into a good college then you will have to do good in my class." Mrs.Stone says which gets the class to groan in return.

 I look at Aidan and shrug my shoulders. "So..." Aidan starts "Why don't we exchange numbers and meet at the library after school" he sounds nervous about his question.

 "Ya that sounds good." I tear a piece of paper out of my notebook and rip it in half and hand one piece to Aidan and write my number on my piece. "Meet me after school in the main lobby?" I ask handing him my number.

 "Ok. I'll see you after school" He says handing me his number then grabbing his books and walking out of the classroom.

 I do the same and walk out into the stuffy and overcrowded hallway. I hear someone call my name and turn around and see Alice. I stop but I don't feel much like telling her everything that happened. She walks quickly to me and a worried expression crosses her face as she walks up to me.

 "What happened over the weekend? Everyone in first period was talking about you and Nathan! There are all sorts of crazy rumors about you! Like that you and Nathan got drunk and slept together! There's one about you pretending to be friends with Sophia so you could get with Nathan! And the worst one was that you and Nathan have been hooking up for months and that you're pregnant with his kid!" Alice goes off as we walk down the hall.

 "ALICE!!!! Stop!!! Do you seriously believe any of those? We've been friends forever!!!" I scream at her?

 'No. No! But...I...I...Just thought... You never told me what happened!!!" Alice says

 "I will just not now. Meet me at my locker and we'll go out for lunch or something. I'll tell you then promise!!" I say and walk away towards the gym but hear still hear Alice screaming down the hall at me to stop and wait.
