Luke Patterson Imagines (JATP)

Sighted

Luke stares at the boy in front of him, hands shoved into his pockets to stop from fidgeting. Reggie, to his left, looks more confused than anything. Alex, to his right, is standing perfectly still, trying to look cool in front of Willie. Luke himself is standing right behind Julie, a not-so-silent shadow who's still deciding whether or not Willie can be trusted.

Willie, to his credit, is doing everything he can to make up for his past actions. That's why Luke and his friends have agreed to meet up with him today- to find out another solution to the grand problem of getting Bobby to see them.

Willie folds his hands in front of him. "I've been looking into every possible source I can. I'm not sure how many options you have." Alex looks questioningly at Willie. "Do you have anything?" Willie nods. "There's only one shot left- another lifer, one who can see ghosts just like Julie can."

Luke steps forward, shocked. "I thought you said that lifers seeing ghosts was impossible." Willie turns to face him. "It is. Or, at least it is for everyone except Julie and this girl." He glances around to make sure no one is in the general vicinity, lowering his voice as he continues to speak. "I don't want to say her name in case Caleb is listening, but if there's any way to make lifers see you, she would know about it. I can't go to her myself- Caleb's grown pretty strict about monitoring me, but you can go find her yourselves."

"She goes to this park every day after school. There's a bench in the back of the park, closest to the corner with the fountain. She stays there to do homework, so if you want to go talk to her, that's where she'll be." Luke nods slowly. "You think she'll be able to help us?" Willie shrugs. "I don't know, but she's your best bet. If you want to talk to Bobby, or be seen by anyone who isn't in this room, you'll have to talk to her."

After Willie leaves, the band discusses the matter for a while longer. Julie still isn't sure that getting revenge on Bobby is the best of ideas, but she is eventually convinced, albeit pretty reluctantly. Besides, the boys have given up on revenge- now, they just want to speak to him and know why he took credit for all their music, what could have driven their former bandmate and friend to erase their legacies forever.

So, the band finds themselves heading to the park. Julie has to hurry out of school to make it over to the park in time to meet this mysterious girl, and the boys catch up with her, walking the remaining distance together.

When they first find the park bench, it's empty. "I guess we wait." Reggie says, slumping down onto the worn wood seats. Julie is about to sit next to him, but then she stops when she hears a voice calling her name.

"Julie, is that you?" Julie turns to see a girl walking towards them, backpack slung casually over her shoulder. "Oh, Y/N, it's so good to see you! I feel like I haven't talked to you in, like, forever." Luke walks over to Julie, peering over at the girl. "Is this our girl?" Julie shakes her head imperceptibly. Just another school friend, Luke guesses.

Then, strangely enough, the girl turns to Luke. "Hi!" She starts to extend a hand, but then stops when she notices the confused looks of both Julie and Luke. Julie stares at Y/N, shocked. "You can see him?"

For just a moment, there's this look in Y/N's eyes, like she's just come to a realization that she's made a terrible mistake. She quickly pulls back her hand. "Oh, sorry, I thought I saw a friend of mine across the street. I don't see him anymore, whoops." Despite her casual explanation, she still looks unsettled.

"Well, you know what, I had better get going. Homework, you know?" With that, Y/N walks hurriedly out of the park, not even giving Julie a chance to say goodbye. Reggie speaks up from the park bench. "Well, that was weird." Luke nods slowly. "Yeah. Give me a minute, I've got to check something out." With that, he poofs out of the area, reappearing on the sidewalk outside of the park.
