The Doctor's POV

I wonder how Melody is at the moment. I know she left for Thorn, and I know she is in good hands. But I still worry a bit about her. That's what good parents do, right?

But that's not why I'm writing. I haven't been in contact with her for since Amy and Rory left and I got a new companion. I wonder how the two will interact. Since I don't know Melody too well, I can't predict the outcomes. But maybe she'll like this new companion, right? Gotta look at the glass half-full. Who thought of that phrase, anyways? Must look it up sometime. Oh, well.

I closed the book and turned to face my little peeker. "Haven't you ever heard of privacy?"

"Sorry, just curious. You've been shut up with your diary lately," Clara said.

"It's not a diary. It's a journal. And, if you don't mind, I'd like to be alone, if that's alright."

"Sure. Go back to writing about this Melody." Clara straightened up. "And what did you mean about being a 'good parent?' Is Melody your daughter or something?"

I opened up the journal again and went back to reading. Clara sighed and walked away.

Melody has dropped some very interesting news on me today. After escaping this Labyrinth and this guy named Professor Kakos, she told about a phone call she had with Jasmine. And guess what? She's going back to Thorn and living there. Living there! Even though she told me the borders were down for the TARDIS, I'm not taking that risk. For all I know, Jasmine got angry at me for no reason (I have no reason to think she won't) and put the borders up. This would be a very Jasmine-like thing to do.

But back to Melody. She's studying to be a healer. Although I'm happy for her, I'm going to miss her terribly. I don't think it helps that she regenerated. Not one bit.

I flipped to earlier-

I have some news. Ella had the babies. Twins. Juliet and Jacob. They're cute little things. Well, Jacob is. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting my little god-daughter yet.

Yep, I accepted the duty of being god-father to these twins, which means I probably shouldn't take Ella on any life-threatening journeys.

But my other news. Anastasia has delivered a deadly message. Liliana was going to kill Melody even though she was supposedly shut down. And that message has come true. We went to Thorn, and Melody allowed-under the influence of Liliana-to be shoved out of a third floor window. Yep. Bleeding to death, lying on the streets of Thorn, half-conscious and half-alive, Melody allowed Ella to do something unheard of. Actually, this was Ella's idea to become Time Lord and give Melody her regeneration energy.

This new Melody is quite interesting. She's got long-ish coarse black hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. And spider fingers. I'm eager to find out what this Melody is like. Hopefully nice and sweet and good. An evil Melody is like a nice Dalek. A nightmare in itself.

And later-

Well, I'm certain about one thing- Melody is not someone to mess with. She's manipulative and harsh if you don't agree with her. Fortunately, I did not find this out the hard way. She's also really intelligent. Hey, at least she's alive, right?

I closed the book and hid it. I then went to the phone and dialed Jasmine's number, wondering why I even put the phone on the outside in the first place.

Melody picked up. "Texas Crematorium. You're here, we grill. How may I help you?"

"Hi, Melody," I said.

"Dad!" Melody's squeal just about burst my eardrums. "What happened to calling?"

"I have, but you wouldn't pick up. Also, I've been a bit busy. I'll explain later. Anyways, how busy are you? Swamped? Too much free time?"

"The latter. Why? Hang on a sec-are you picking me up?"

"Why not? I figured you need a little break. And, I've got a friend for you."

"You can't pick my boyfriends, Dad. I've already got one."

"Why would I pick out a boyfriend for you when I dislike anyone who goes out with you? Besides, she's a girl."

"Good point. And, Dad, 'she's a girl?' Really?"

"Well, I've gotta go. See you in a bit, 'kay?"

"I'll go get ready," Melody hung up. As soon as I turned around, Clara came bouncing out of wherever she was hiding. "So, where we going?"

"A little planet called Thorn. You ready to meet Melody?" I was already flipping switches before Clara had said yes.

Melody's POV

I ran out of the mansion as the TARDIS materialized. As soon as she landed, I fumbled with my key. Just as I pulled out, someone opened the door. And it wasn't Dad.

"Who the hell are you?" I demanded, stepping back. The girl took a step back in surprise. "Sorry. I'm looking for someone named-"

"Melody Piper!" Dad exclaimed, coming out of the TARDIS and enfolding me in his arms. "How've you been? How's Thorn? The family? Jasmine still want to hunt me down with a pitchfork?"

"Nah, that's Aunt Sabrina. No, Jasmine only wants to do that when she's in a bad mood." I buried my face into his chest and breathed in his familiar scent. "What about you?"

"Ah, nothing much. Time-traveling, grabbing new companions-" he gestered to the girl-"typical stuff. You ready to go?"

"Yeah. What happened to your old ones?" I asked. "Your companions. And you changed your outfit to something...darker. Still got that bow-tie though, guess somethings just never change."

Bow-ties are cool," I said, smoothing it. "Ah, let's not just stand out here. Come inside. I redid the TARDIS."

"I bet you did. Gee, seems like everytime I see you, something's gotta change, huh?" I ducked inside the TARDIS.

"Do you like it?" Dad asked.

"It's so...gloomy. Dad, are you okay? Did something happen?" I turned to face him.

"What? No, no. I'm fine," Dad said in that tone that suggested something unhappy happened.

"Are you sure?" I asked, peering in his eyes. As usual, he glanced away. "Yeah. Now, where do you want to go?"

"You choose. I'm going to my bedroom and get rid of that rediculous frog theme. Where is it?"

He wrote down the intructions and handed them to me. "Oh, before you go. Clara, this Melody. Melody, Clara."

Clara gave a little wave and said, "Hello!"

"Hi. Can I go now?" I asked Dad, feeling a bit shy. So I've been given the lovely gift of shyness around people. Cheerful.

And I didn't just want to fix my room. I wanted to walk and think to myself. Mainly, the changes. What happened? Did something happen to Amy and Rory?

Did they die? It was a bit gruesome to think, but I knew better than to believe that hasn't happened to companions.

Did he lose someone?
