Chapter 11
Asking Trinity to put their salt and lighter fluid away in the trunk, Sam earned a few minutes alone with Dean without raising her suspicion after the spirit was gone.
"Of course she doesn't look the same, man," Dean said. "Don't you think I noticed? She used to look like Mom, but now she's some weird combination of us and Bobby."
"I didn't notice. I was too busy knowing her; I didn't even see the differences. Dean, why do you think she changed herself so much?"
"She already told you; I heard her. She wanted to fit in."
"She could've done that with a change of her hair and eyes. But her whole body?"
"No, not her legs."
"What, do you take inventory every time we see her?"
"When she was living with Bobby, yeah."
Trinity leaned against the doorframe. "Boys, if you wanted to talk about me, you could've just asked to be left alone. Honestly."
Both turned to look at her at the same time, and she stood up straight. "You wanna see how I actually look? It's only fair of me to warn you, it's a shocking difference. Actually, I'm not sure. I haven't seen myself in almost a year now."
Sam glanced at Dean. "You're willing to show us when you haven't even seen yourself?"
"Yep. Must love you guys a lot." She stepped farther into the light so that they could clearly see her long brown hair, slender figure, and bright green eyes. Slowly, the brothers noticed that she was changing. This wasn't a sudden abrupt change like usual; she seemed hesitant. It made it slow going, but they eventually saw her.
Because she hadn't changed her legs, she was still the same height, but if the boys hadn't seen her change, they never would've believed it was her. Her face was a different shape, her eyes were just slightly lower on her face, her nose was smaller, her eyes were blue and her hair was blonde, she had a fuller figure, although she wasn't big. She looked...well, she looked like Mary. And Jessica, thought Sam.
Sam blinked once. "Wow."
"Don't strain yourself. I know exactly how ugly I am."
Dean gaped. "U-ugly? If I didn't know better, Trin, I'd say you were actually our sister. You look almost exactly like Mom."
"I could be," she joked. "I don't know who my mom was." If it wasn't for the age problem, Dean might have believed it.
They slowly shook their heads. "Don't you dare wear that fake skin around us. This," Dean gestured to her, "is much more you."
She smiled. "Thanks, big brother. So, I've spilled my secret. Sammy, your turn."
Sending his sister a harsh glare, Sam turned to Dean. "I'm having nightmares again."
"That's normal for everyone. Why's this a secret?"
"No, like, nightmares, Dean. And earlier, I had a premonition, while I was driving. I nearly killed Trinity."
"I'm fine. You made the truck tip over."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Dean stepped forward. "What? Are you telling me you're seeing the future again?"
"It looks like it, yeah."
"And you made a truck tip over with your mind?"
"Yep."
Dean looked between them. "When did this start again?"
"Honestly, I'm not sure," Sam chuckled nervously. "I've been having nightmares on and off for the past few months, but if they actually happened, I wasn't there to see it. But for the past few nights I've been seeing you and Trinity dying, and I saw it again while I was driving."
Trinity continued, "I tried to pass it off as stress, because of Bobby, but I don't think I can do that after seeing him get the headache and writhe around like he used to. Plus moving things with his mind?"
"And when were you planning to tell me that you were psychic again?"
"I'm telling you now."
Dean heaved a heavy breath. "Fine. Just go get in the car. We'll head back to the bunker, see what's up with it, maybe get a couple hours of shut eye."
