Chapter 28
Not wanting to face anyone, Trinity spent the night in her locked room, pretending it was a cell. She deserved worse than to be locked up.
The next morning, she got up and walked out to the kitchen of her apartment. Intending to make coffee, she was pleasantly surprised to find that it was already brewing.
"Good morning, Trinity."
She smiled unconvincingly. "Good morning, Cas. Thanks for making coffee."
"I know you enjoy it. What did the note from your brothers say?" At first, Cas had been hesitant to call them her brothers, because he thought that they were just close friends, but after seeing how both the boys and Trinity reacted to her leaving, he assented.
She shrugged. "Same old. 'Come home' 'Let us know you're safe', things like that."
"Will you?"
"Go home?" She chuckled, taking a sip of the hot drink. "No, I don't think so. Uh, they don't need to be involved in this. The only reason I'm involving you is because then I can learn what I need to learn about my powers."
He sighed. "You know I cannot teach you everything."
"But you can teach me everything good, which is just as good. Those powers-causing pain, stopping hearts-I'm not interested in those." Truth be told, she was forcing herself not to be. Anything that represented evil or hate, she was trying to avoid.
"You also understand that without a human nearby, preferably one that you know, I can't teach you how to sense emotions or souls." She believed that learning those two things was essential, so that she could avoid people who wanted to harm her and her family. Also, if she learned to see souls, she could then see and differentiate among different demons and angels.
"Yes."
"And yet you are still not willing to see them?"
She flashed an angry scorn to him. "I told you before; I'm a time bomb. I won't put my family through that."
"You may not be. There is always good in people."
She flinched. "Please, Cas. I don't need-hey! Let go of me!" He grabbed her arm suddenly and tightly.
"I'm sorry, Trinity, but I can't let this continue."

Dean listened to Sam read the prophecy again. "Yeah, yeah. We know all that."
Sam shook his head. "No, get this. 'But if the trinity has family who love her as her power develops, all her evil potential shall become that of good.' Trinity isn't evil!"
"Her power's been developing over the past three months, Sam." He shook his head. "I don't think we can change that."
"But maybe it takes a year for them to fully develop. Maybe three months doesn't really matter."
"That's a big if. And she isn't even going to come see us, you know that. She learned from the best how to be stubborn."
Sam rolled his eyes. "Cas said he would talk to her. Maybe he can knock some sense into her."
Suddenly, from the Crow's Nest they heard a shout. "Let go of me!"
The boys didn't even pause as they leaped to their feet and dashed out of the room. Cas had his back to them, his arm outstretched in front of them where-Trinity!
"Trin!" Sam felt an overwhelming sense of joy and peace hit him like a wave as he ran forward and lifted her off her feet.
Hanging there in the air, Trinity grabbed her brother tightly and glanced back at Dean. He had tears in his eyes, looking at her with a mixed expression of confusion, distrust, and love. She had disappointed him. Hastily she closed her eyes and buried her head in Sam's neck, taking a deep breath before she started crying too.
"Sam, can you put me down?" she asked after a while, even though she didn't want to let go. He nodded and set her back on her feet.
Dean didn't hesitate before pulling her into a hug, making it nearly impossible to breathe as he covered her face with his jacket and buried it in his chest. "I can't believe you, Trinity." But there was relief in his voice, which made her take a heavy breath.
"I'm sorry." She pulled away to find that Cas was gone.
He grabbed her face in his hand. "What happened that night?"
Sam said, "Who cares? I just wanna know why."
She felt her lip tremble. "It doesn't matter. Cas brought me here, and he shouldn't have. I should go."
"What? No way." Sam grabbed her wrist. "I'm not letting you leave again."
She looked at the determination in his eyes and sighed. "Sammy...look, I'm not...good. And I thought, if you thought I was dead, then maybe...maybe I could keep from hurting you even more."
Dean said angrily, "How does it work in your mind for your death to hurt less than you going dark side? I'd rather lead the armies of hell through Granny Sue's backyard than have you dead."
She snapped back, "Don't you think I would too? I've watched both of you die before, and it killed me! But if I don't leave now, you know how these people think. They're going to want me to kill you guys, show them that I'm really on their side. And if I do flip a switch or something, I might! And I would rather die a thousand times, make you think I'm dead, than go through that."
"Trinity, you're not supposed to be evil!" Sam said.
"You're only saying that because you're my brother." She yanked her arm free. "Guys, you've gotta let me go. It's best, I promise."
"No, Trin-" Sam tried again, but she was gone. Again.
