TW: INAPPROPRIATE TOUCHINGSo last night, @UmbrellasOverhead posted an announcement about track practice, while they were working on shotput. (Summarizing it for any who might be uncomfortable with swearing) The male coach divided everyone into boys and girls, but he was babying the girls and acting like the didn't know stuff. Then he started touching them, using the excuse that he was adjusting their positions, but really was touching some uncomfortable spots. Then Rain threw the shotput further than most (including the boys), and the coach told them that they threw the wrong one, that the one they threw was the men's shotput. The only difference is that the mens shotput is two pounds heavier. He then proceeded to say a bunch of sexist crap. Here's a screenshot of the announcement.
Rain then sent an email to the track coach (not the same guy who was being gross), and here's a screenshot of that:
And stuff like this happens every day. Some might say it's normal. At the very least, it's been extremely normalized, and it needs to stop. What's worse is this was only yesterday. I've heard so many stories just like this and it's so gross and horrible. Not to mention the sheer amount of sexist and gross stuff this coach did AT ONE PRACTICE ALONE. If you still aren't convinced that women's rights is an issue, I urge you to go back and read that again. THIS IS NORMAL. SEXISM IS A THING ON A DAILY BASIS. It's so engrained in our society, that just about everyone holds some sort of sexist ideal or stereotype (I myself am not exempt from this). Now, that's not to say that everyone is a sexist idiot, but what I am saying is that we are in so deep. This has gone on for thousands of years and has taken root in society itself. Now is the time for change, and change we will. Thank you.
