So I just finished the book The Sound of Stars (for those wondering, hated it, no plot development, flat characters, no action, repetitive plot, boring overall), and the main character identifies as demi-ace. In the book, she meets an alien boy and they have to escape across the country basically to save the world, and they go on a 9 day road trip to get there. The main character, Ellie, whenever love is brought up, always talks about how she's never really felt a lot of attraction to anyone, unless they're close and have a bond, so demi. However, obviously she and the alien boy have to fall in love, but they do it in 9 days. 9 days having KNOWN EACH OTHER, let alone been dating and kissing and stuff. It seemed to contradict the whole character trait of Ellie being demi, and she even stated several times on like the 7th day that they don't know each other well so she isn't in love with/attracted to him, but on the 9th day, she's professing her undying love. I understand that the author is demi, however this seemed a little strange and contradictory to me, but I know I can't understand on my own since I'm not demi, so those of you who are, what are your thoughts on this plotline?
