Look at the title again. CONTRAVERSY. There should be no contraversy surrounding the murder of George Floyd. He was killed by Derek Chauvin. Caught on camera, autopsy, and all. And yet Chauvin has not been convicted because there is debate around whether or not Chauvin killed Floyd, or drugs did. Even though the autopsy said that Chauvin did. Even though Chauvin PRESSED HIS KNEE AGAINST FLOYDS NECK FOR 9 MINUTES AND 29 SECONDS. HE WAS DEPRIVED OF AIR FOR ALMOST TEN MINUTES, WHILE ALSO HAVING HIS AIRWAYS CRUSHED.
White privilege exists. And it is shown in all it's glory in the case of Derek Chauvin. There was video evidence, AND scientific evidence, and PEOPLE ARE STILL ARGUING OVER WHAT KILLED FLOYD. That's bats*** insane. How in the world do you expect me to believe that Floyd died of drug overdose, when he died right after a trained police officer knelt on his neck for almost 10 minutes, the autopsy proved he died of constricted airways, AND he was calling for help on video? The person performing the autopsy didn't even look at the news before doing it so he could be as unbiased as possible while determining what killed Floyd, and STILL said that it was because of what Chauvin did. I can't believe people disagree, because literally all evidence points to one man at fault, and one man only. That man is NOT George Floyd.
Racism is a thing, people. Racist cops are a thing. They aren't gods, and they don't always know best. They're people, and people sometimes suck. People can be racist. This is the case with so many police officers in the U.S. and around the globe (I'll be talking about the U.S. today though). The system cannot be fixed. Police get six months of training, and that's it. Meanwhile, lawyers have to be educated for YEARS before they can practice law. I saw a quote online that went something like "Police officers need 6 months of training to UPHOLD the law, and lawyers need 7 years of education to INTERPRET the law. There's something wrong here." It's true. Police should need to go through more training and education to become officers, and it should be ACTIVELY ENFORCED not to discriminate between races (or any other factors, for that matter). Even so, there'll still be bad people who make it through, and it is higher administrators job to get rid of them, or systemic racism will never be eradicated (obviously more needs to be done, however this would be a huge step in making America more of a country with equity and justice). And white people are still favored TODAY. Specifically cishet white men. Have you noticed how none of the murders recently have been done by that group of people only? Interesting, isn't it? Cishet, able-bodied/mentally able white men (who will from now on be referred to as CAWM because that's kind of a mouthful), are the only ones showing up in the news. And I GUARANTEE YOU that if a POC, disabled, woman, or LGBTQ+ person did the same, it would be everywhere because of people who are looking to discriminate against them. Strange, isn't it, how society favors the VAST minority of the world's population? Almost half the population is women alone! Most people aren't white, I think it's only ten percent or something worldwide, a ton of people have disabilities, and I think close to 10% of people worldwide are in some way LGBTQ+ as well. Obviously there's overlap, but the vast majority of the world is not CAWM. And this is the group society chooses to favor. Black people cannot be killed by CAWM any longer, and these stories and the contraversy around them shows just how deep systemic racism goes.
