For the lovely ElizalovesHamilton! Enjoy! Xoxo
"Har!" Sterling gushed, dropping her pointe shoe ribbons from her fingers. She gingerly grasped onto the flowers her boyfriend handed her. "They're beautiful, silly, but you know it's bad luck to give the bouquets before the show, right?"
Harrison giggled. "I know, but I didn't want them to wilt in my dressing room." He kissed his girlfriend's cheek.
"Well, thank you." Sterling kissed him back, thankful that her lipstick was a stain and not a cremè, therefore, it didn't smear onto Harrison's skin.
Harrison stood up and followed Sterling over to her dressing room vanity and watched as she cut the flowers at an angle and put them into water, discarding her wilting show flowers from the previous week.
It was the second of the School's six week run of Balanchine's Theme and Variations. Every week was a different variation, meaning every dancer had been rehearsing six total variations.
"Sterling!" Katherine called, ducking into her open dressing room. "What dance is going on?!"
Sterling and Harrison both turned around. "This is our Dances at a Gathering week, so whatever your second rotation is. Is it Bluebird?"
"Right, you're right." Katherine nodded and dashed back over to the costume room.
Harrison snickered. "Imagine not knowing which variation is on tonight."
"Hey," Sterling gasped, playfully slapping his chest. "She's covering for Nessa. She learned two different rotations."

In what felt like only a few minutes after receiving her bouquet of flowers, Sterling was onstage, doing her solo part before being joined onstage with Harrison.
Sterling leapt and turned, her eyes sparking and her lips displaying a beaming smile.
She turned to the wings and gestured to Harrison, who was running onstage. After his series of double tours, the pas began.
"Breathe, Ster." Harrison whispered under his breath as Sterling lurched into their first lift. He knew she had been going all out for her solo.
Sterling subtly nodded and smiled even brighter, feeling secure in Harrison's hold.
The two dancers were completely swept up in the choreography, flowing in unison with their beautiful costumes.
Then, it all went silent and it all went black. Sterling and Harrison both gasped as they were plunged into the darkness.
"Shit." Harrison mumbled, gently easing Sterling out of the lift. They had no idea what was going on.
Like goddamned professionals, however, the two finished their choreography, only being lit by backstage crossing lights; lights that might not had even been bright enough for the audience to see them finish.
Someone in the audience must have caught their silhouettes bow, since an awkward wave of applause washed over the audience once the dancers bowed.
Harrison cursed again as he felt Sterling tear away from him. She dashed offstage.
"Sterling!" Harrison called, ducking and weaving between stage technicians trying to figure out what happened to the technical elements of the stage, so the show could go on. "Ster, stop, it's okay." Harrison wrapped her up in his arms.
"What happened?" Sterling gasped, trying her hardest not to cry. "Everyone's going to make fun of us! I don't want them to do that to you! Or me, for that matter!"
Harrison shook his head, tilting Sterling's chin up in the dressing room light. "No. Nobody is going to think that. We finished the dance in the dark! We didn't just walk offstage! We We great, okay? It's out of our control."
"Are you...are you not anxious about it though?" Sterling whispered.
Harrison sighed. "I wish it didn't happen, but we can't fix it now. We did our best, okay? I love you."
"I love you too."
"I told you that bouquet would be bad luck."
