Hermione's POV
Harry, Ginny, Ron, Luna, and I stumbled quietly out of Zonko's just as the dung bombs went off inside the store. Neville followed quickly after with the rest of the people in the store, only he was the only one with an embarrassed look on his face rather than annoyed. Covered in zoot he stumbled our way.
"I didn't think that would set them off. All of them." He said bashfully but surprisingly slightly amused. We all laughed, and he instantly joined us. Luna walked up to him and linked her arm with his.
"Don't worry Nev," said Luna in her trademark dreamy voice "We'll blame it on the nargles," she said with a wink and they both left down the street, arms intertwined, Neville saying something funny making Luna laugh.
"Hey... um Ginny?" stammered Ron "Mom mentioned she wanted bracelets for her birthday and since we're here I wanted to pick out something for her" I raised my eyebrows at him, and he didn't meet my gaze. I'd already helped him find his mother's present. What was he up to? "I'm just really terrible at picking gifts, could you help me find something nice?" He asked quickly pleading with his striking blue eyes that were so mesmer- stop.
Ginny rolled her eyes "You are terrible," she said shortly and then smirked "Fine. Won't be long" She gave Harry a hesitant peck on the lips, but more comfortably than earlier today. She turned to leave, and Ron followed, but not after giving Harry a wink. I looked at Harry questioningly.
"What was that?" He laughed and linked his arm with mine.
"Ron's bad under pressure, okay? I just asked him to distract her a little whilst you help me find Gin a birthday present, remember that?" He dragged me away to the opposite side of the street where Ron and Ginny had gone.
"Yeah, yeah, I know,"
"Let's hit the broom store first," He suggested, but I steered him away.
"No, no, no. You got her that broomstick care kit last year so this year it has to be something different." I rushed him into Dervish and Banges.
He looked at me puzzled "It... does?" I rolled my eyes. Boys.
-Time-lapse later that day-
We left the store with Ginny's present tucked safely in Harry's pocket and a little something I may have or may have not bought for Ron. I laced my arm with his as we walked the path down to the three broomsticks. I saw Malfoy in my peripheral vision walking up to us from some other store. I was going to raise my hand to wave at him but froze in my tracks. He stood paralyzed in the middle of the road with a terrified look on his face. Harry turned to look at me puzzled.
"What's up?" he asked and looked at where I was looking. Too late did we realize what Malfoy was looking at. A small explosion happened behind us and we flew forwards into the dirt. Harry was now gone, and I lay dumbfounded on the ground. There was a loud ringing in my ears and the chaos around me seemed muffled and distant. I turned around to see what had caused the explosion. More like who.
In the debris of Madam Puddifoot's tea shop stood two figures dressed fully in black and seemed to be the only ones unaffected by the explosion. One was a stocky little woman, sloping-shouldered, and you could tell she was the one who'd made the destruction by the way her stubby fingers still held tightly to her wand. She had a maniacal look on her face and laughed with a wheezy giggle. The squat and lumpy little man standing next to her looked sideways at her proudly. I could only guess they were acting together by his lopsided leer. The debris of the destroyed shop carried on down that path as well and people were panicking and running into their shops and away from the street. With good reason. I couldn't get them out of my mind. I then saw the most terrifying thing about them. I rolled to the side and hid behind a wall that led to another path. They had-
