The First Day

You slid off of your HYDRA-provided motorcycle, propping the kickstand in your designated parking spot.

The SHIELD facility was much different than HYDRA's. SHIELD did not attempt to hide, while HYDRA was underground. SHIELD seemed much more maintained, up-to-date, and staffed. It was quite disgusting really, that an American facility that caused so much destruction was this well-funded.

You slipped your ID badge around your neck and patted yourself down for any weapons you might have forgotten to leave back. It would be awful to get arrested for bringing weapons into a secured building on your first day.

You walked through the doorway and showed Security your badge. They nodded and waived you in, and you sighed in relief when the alarm didn't sound as you walked through the gate.

You mentally went through the map in your head. SHIELD was not an easy building to navigate, and the HYDRA and Terrorist Research Group was far from the main entrance. As you walked down the numerous hallways, you made sure to make yourself seem friendly, giving everyone a nod that you made eye contact with. You also made note of names and security clearances.

According to the file you had been given, there were many HYDRA members on the STRIKE team. They had been notified of your arrival and were there to help you if you needed it.

When you located the elevator, you were disappointed to find that you would not be the only one riding up to the fifth floor. A man with an eyepatch and a long coat also accompanied you, squinting his one eye as you entered.

He didn't speak until the two of you had passed a couple of floors.

"I've never seen you around," the man, who you assume is Director Nicholas Fury, said, breaking the silence.

"That's odd, Director," you replied, smiling. "I've worked here for a couple of months now."

"What department?"

"HYDRA and Terrorist Research, sir."

He stayed silent but didn't argue back. You took this as a sign that you had delayed the drama, for now. You knew that he was one of the most powerful people in the building despite him lacking an eye. Had you been carrying your gun, you would have shot him and ran, but that wasn't yet on HYDRA's agenda. Besides, that was more of a Winter Soldier thing to do.

You stepped out of the elevator when it reached your floor.

"Work hard, agent. We need to wipe out those bastards sooner rather than later."

"Yes, of course, sir."

You swallowed the insult. At the end of the day, as long as you accomplished your mission, nothing else would matter.

You stopped in the middle of the room, finding people gathered around tables and corners of the room, observing maps of bases, stolen intel, and faces of your fellow agents back at the facility.

How did they know so much?

You made mental note of every base, piece of information, and bounty in the room. You had no idea how much of this HYDRA already knew, but you figured you would rather be safe than sorry.

You wandered around the room, pretending to be participating by listening into conversations.

"I have no idea," you overheard someone say.

"What was the question?" you interrupted.

Everyone in the group gave you a small look of uncertainty, but the man repeated his question.

"Are these all of the bases?"

You glanced at the map, counting every base and noting their location. There were many more, but you weren't about to announce that.
