When Steve came storming into the hospital with civilian clothes and a nervous glance on his face, you knew something was up, not to mention the way he angrily grabbed Natalia by her arm and slammed her against the wall.
You took the opportunity to glance at any sort of notification from Pierce.
Steve and Agent Romanoff are now fugitives. Go on the run with them -- you're going to be marked as a fugitive, but HYDRA isn't going to fire a single shot at you. Stick to the plan.
That still wasn't much of an explanation.
"What in the world is going on?" you asked, storming into the room.
"I'm not going to ask you again -- what's on the hard drive?" Steve interrogated, not paying attention to you.
You rolled your eyes, realizing that if you didn't intervene, you weren't going to get the answers you wanted or get the mission accomplished.
You grabbed Steve's shoulder and pulled him away from Natalia. Anger flashed in his eyes.
"Who's this?" he asked Natalia in the most polite voice he could muster.
"Rogers, this is Agent (Y/L/N). She's been promoted to my team as a field Agent."
He sighed. "Go home, kid. Get out of this while you can."
You shook your head. "My orders were to do as Agent Romanoff tells me. I'm staying here."
You also had Pierce's orders to stay here, which were much more important to you.
He raised his eyebrows. "Fine. Maybe you can get some information out of Natasha."
You glanced at her, begging the information out of her for the sake of you and Steve.
"I know who killed Fury. Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists, the ones who do call him the Winter Soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last fifty years," Natalia said.
"So he's a ghost story," Steve concluded.
"Five years ago I was escorting a nuclear engineer out of Iran, somebody shot out my tires near Odessa," Natasha continued. "We lost control, went straight over a cliff, I pulled us out, but the Winter Soldier was there. I was covering my engineer, so he shot him straight through me. Soviet slug, no rifling. Bye-bye bikinis."
You glanced at her scar and took a deep breath.
This is ensuring world peace, (Y/N), you reminded yourself.
All of these violent moves made by HYDRA had you wondering otherwise. As a trainee, you were shown all of these huge explosions knocking out entire cities and terrorists running rampant.
You now wondered how many of those were HYDRA explosions and how many of these scenes were staged to look like SHIELD was the enemy.
By the looks of it, you had no idea anymore. No matter how many times you tried to shake the thoughts from your head, they always came back.
"Agent, what department did you work in?" Steve asked, causing both of them to look at you.
"HYDRA and Terrorist Research."
"Did your team ever look into anything like this?"
Thank goodness you had studied the SHIELD files, otherwise, you would have given out information that didn't match.
"When searching for HYDRA bases, we've only caught limited footage of what could be this 'Winter Soldier.' The metal arm, weapons, it all matches up."
