"Excuse me, no weapons are allowed in here--"

You continued to storm into the hospital as you whipped out your ID card and showed it to the lady working at the front desk.

"I'm with SHIELD. Where is Nicholas Fury?"

"He is in an emergency operation, I'm afraid that I cannot..."

It was taking all of your willpower to avoid barging through the security. It wasn't because you cared for the man, but because Steve, Natalia, and Maria Hill could be exchanging useful information you needed to hear.

"I work for Fury; he's my boss. I was also sent here by Alexander Pierce of SHIELD and invited by Agent Romanoff. I am needed here. I don't plan on shooting anyone; I am just needed here for extra security."

The woman slid her glasses down her nose and squinted at your ID card, then went on to holding up the card to make sure the picture of you matched.

She frowned and handed back your ID.

"He's in room 2014."

"Thanks."

You briskly walk down the hallway until you see a familiar redhead.

"Is he gonna make it?" you asked the group. No one bothered to look at you, as they were all focused on Fury in the operating room.

"I don't know," Rogers replied. You had never met him in person before, but you doubted that he had ever been in a situation like this.

"Tell me about the shooter," Natasha started, her eyes not trailing off of the heartbeat monitor for a second.

The Winter Soldier had been spotted?

"Fast. Strong. Had a metal arm."

You glanced at Natasha, whose face slightly paled. You knew she knew who he was. According to Pierce, they had trained together. You had never personally trained with the Winter Soldier, but you doubted that he went easy on anyone, no matter who you were. After all, it was HYDRA and the Red Room's code: the weak should be eliminated.

"Ballistics?" she asked, her voice wavering.

Maria Hill walked into the room, acknowledging your presence with a slight nod.

"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable."

Any concerns that had built up in you when you heard the Winter Soldier had been seen at the crime completely faded away. For now, you and the rest of HYDRA were safe.

"No heartbeat!" someone yelled.

You watched as the medical staff rushed around Fury, desperately trying to find a way to revive his dying body. The Winter Soldier was an effective killer.

"Don't do this to me, Nick," Natasha murmured. She and Maria were both on the verge of tears.

You felt a small pang in your chest. You remembered clearly what it was like losing all of your family in the war. No matter how hard you tried to bury the memory, encountering a situation like this always resurfaced it. It couldn't affect your work or HYDRA would brainwash you. As much as you hated the memory, you didn't want to lose yourself.

Steve was being awfully quiet. It wasn't as much of a mourning silence as it was a conflicted one. He was clearly trying to figure something out. His stare against the wall clearly gave it away.

Fury must have given him something that he wasn't supposed to talk about. Whether it was a hard drive of information or something Fury said, Steve was the only one who knew.
