NEVER BEFORE HAD the quidditch pitch been so full. Lines so long that they stretched back to the castle separated the potential seekers, beaters, keepers and chasers, while eager spectators were crammed into the stands. Up in the commentators box, was a Ministry of Magic official from the department of magical games and sports, who sat with a frosty gaze while her more eager assistant rounded up the players.
Waving goodbye to Lily, who went to the Gryffindor stands to show support, and Marlene, who walked over to the beater line, trying to shake off her nerves, Isabelle left her best friends to join the other chasers. With there being three chasers per team, the line seemed almost three times as long as the others which did not help with her nerves.
Out of nowhere, a dark figure, who she had certainly not expected to see at a sporting event, appeared beside her. "Hello." Drawled the dry, monotone voice.
It was Severus.
Feeling slightly uncomfortable but trying to be polite, Isabelle replied "Oh, hi Severus. Are you trying out for the team..." her voice trailed off as a patronising smile grew across his face.
"No... I just wanted to see if you and Lily wanted to study with me for the potions test next week. We are, to put it blankly, of a higher standard than our other peers."
Taken aback at this statement, Isabelle looked confused for a moment before agreeing, since her and Snape had never really spoke a lot, and now he was complimenting her? At least, it was a compliment by Snape's standards. The pair stood there in an awkward silence until someone pushed in the line beside them. It was James Potter, Isabelle's former teammate and chaser for Gryffindor. "Move it Snivellous." James demanded pushing Snape aside. "See you around Isabelle." Snape muttered as he slouched away.
Turning with an air of annoyance to the taller boy, Isabelle scolded, "James! You can't just treat people like that-" but before she could continue, a booming voice rang out from the stands. The trials were starting.
Ten minutes had passed of clumsy twelve year olds dropping the quaffle and haughty older students with new, shiny broomsticks, swooping around the goals until it was Isabelle's turn.
Playing along side her as the chasers were: James Potter and a fourth year boy who she didn't recognise, the seeker was a meek looking second year from Hufflepuff, the keeper a broad Ravenclaw and the beaters were two tall, Slytherin girls. Isabelle recognised some of the opposing team's players, Emma Vanity, the Slytherin seeker and of course, it was just her luck to be playing beater, Sirius Black.
As the whistle blew, Isabelle shot into the air like a bullet, snatching the quaffle and soaring down to the goals. Feigning a shot at the left goal, she dodged the keeper with ease and swiftly scored through the middle hoop. Daring a glance up at the stands, she saw the Ministry Official's eyebrow raised and a small smile fixed on her unmoving face before zooming back into action. Flying up to James, they nodded briefly at each other and knew what they had to do. The two knew one another inside on the pitch and could move together effortlessly, always putting on a good show for the crowd. Throwing the ball back and forth, over the heads of the baffled opposing chasers, James and Isabelle grinned at each other, barely even faltering when Sirius aimed a harsh bludger directly at Isabelle with twice the force deemed necessary. Rolling around her broom, Isabelle caught the ball and passed it back to James who stood on top of his broom, determined to stand out, and scored an extremely showy goal.
After a relay of scoring between the two teams, Isabelle's team winning by 60 points, the game grew more and more aggressive. After dodging five more of Black's fierce bludgers in a row, Isabelle passed the quaffle to the other chaser, who she now knew was called Lucas, who then tried to score but was blocked by the opposing keeper. Before Emma had managed to catch the snitch, a final bludger shot through the air, skimming Isabelle's side, which was odd considering she was no where near the quaffle. As the snitch was caught, Izzy and James made eye contact, both acknowledging the aggression that had been aimed directly toward her during the game but saying nothing until they landed.
Storming up to Sirius, the girl exclaimed, "What the hell Black?" Acting oblivious, he turned around.
"What ever do you mean princess?"
"Don't you dare call me princess, and you know exactly what I mean. Were you trying to kill me or something out there?"
"Well, not kill you..."
"SO WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU TRYING TO DO THEN?!" Isabelle yelled, anger rising by the second. She had been playing quidditch since she knew how to fly on a broom and knew the rules inside out; she knew there was no good reason for an opposing player to be hitting bludgers like that at someone who wasn't currently posing a threat.
Sirius's cool facade shattered as he yelled back, "WHAT DID I DO TO YOU? WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME? IN THE COMMON ROOM YOU OBVIOUSLY DID SOMETHING TO ME! A SPELL, OR SOMETHING. I KNOW THAT'S WHERE THOSE... FEELINGS, OR WHATEVER THEY ARE, CAME FROM. AND THEN I SEE YOU TALKING TO SNIVELLOUS. IS HE HELPING YOU OR SOMETHING? THAT SLIMEY LITTLE GIT!"
Rage that she didn't know existed exploded from within Isabelle. "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? A SPELL? THAT'S MESSED UP BLACK, EVEN FOR YOU! AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION, SEVERUS HAS DONE NOTHING TO HURT YOU EITHER! SO STAY THE HELL OUT OF MY BUSINESS BLACK!"
Isabelle stormed off, angry tears burning in her eyes, heading back to the pitch to meet Marlene who had just completed her tryout, thankful that the adults had been far enough away not to hear their argument.
As Isabelle walked back inside of the building, James emerged from around the corner looking at Sirius. "Not cool pads, not cool." before shaking his head and walking away to the stands.
In the distance, Sirius could faintly hear James shout , "Evans! Go out with me?" Before sliding down the changing room wall to sit on the floor, head on his knees.
He'd screwed up and he knew it.
____________
Awww their first big fight! But never fear, I have big plans for Isabelle and Sirius. I personally like the ship name Sirielle because it sound sounds like cereal and I'm hungry, but let me know your thoughts in the comments and if you liked my chapter, it would mean a lot to me if you voted. ❤️
