"GOOD JOB TEAM at this rate the other teams don't stand a chance!" Yelled Isabelle as her teammates soared to the ground after a successful quidditch practice. Christmas was fast approaching and the conditions were worsening but the Hogwarts team's morale never faltered, urged on by a desire to win (and the fact that if they stopped moving James and Sirius would pretend their brooms were swords and try to fight them).
Feeling content, Isabelle left the changing room with Marlene and headed off to the great hall for dinner but were disappointed when greeted by four, long, empty tables. Soon after Isabelle, James and Sirius came pelting in, almost knocking the girls over, and stared, horrified, at the absence of plates. Filled with an over powering rage at the enormous lack of food (as anyone would be) James stood up on a chair and screamed while Black began shouting about how he was going to die if not fed soon. From the Gryffindor table Peter led the hall in a surprised fit of laughter while Remus sat, face in his hands, as if trying to disassociate himself with these maniacs.
Chuckling contentedly to himself, Dumbledore rose quietly from his seat and addressed the uproar before him.
"As I can tell, some of us are feeling a little bit peckish, so I'll keep this short. Much to our excitement, I am proud to announce that we will be hosting the first ever International Snow Ball at Hogwarts on Christmas Eve night. On the 10th of January, the first Quidditch event of the season will then commence and all students will be allowed the day off!"Dumbledore was cut off by a roar of eager children gossiping about the ball and the upcoming match.
"I will talk no longer. Enjoy your evening!"
Mountains of food piled up on the house tables causing a break dancing James to the excitedly fall on top of a jumping Sirius, crushing him on the floor.
"Oi Izzy gimme a hand up!"
Laughing quietly to herself, Isabelle stepped closer.
"Only if you say the magic word."
"Accio Isabelle!"
Isabelle came shooting across the floor beside Sirius, shrieking in disbelief.
"That is not what I meant Black!"
"Yeah Sirius, listen to this, I know how to use manners. OI EVANS! Please go out with me?" Retorted James.
Rolling her eyes, Lily stepped over James and Sirius and grabbed Isabelle's hand, helping her up.
"I will go out with you, Potter the day Dumbledore's beard turns pink."
"Oddly specific but I do like a challenge." Replied James, brushing himself off and heading back to the table.
As the group ate, Isabelle and Sirius discussed the news that Dumbledore has just revealed.
"So, Laurent, got any plans for Christmas? I've got to go to my dear Mother's dreaded Christmas party and meet more long lost, distant relatives that she will undoubtedly try to marry me off to. She's quite disturbing actually."
"No actually, my parents are going abroad this Christmas so I was planning on staying at Hogwarts. Lily said I could come and stay with her but I don't want to bother her family. It's fine, I mean at least I'll be able to practice more for the quidditch match."
"No, no, no. You are not going to be lonely on Christmas. You can come with me! Come to the stupid party and the stupid Snow Ball with me and then we can be stupid together at James's house and you never know, it might be a bit less stupid if you're there with me. So what do you say? Will you come?"
"First of all, yes! That sounds very fun and... stupid! Second, did the one and only Sirius Black just ask me to the ball?"
"If I did, hypothetically of course, would you say yes?"
"Well since it's all obviously hypothetical, then yes, I think I would."
In a state of pure bliss, Isabelle almost missed the quiet, nasal voice behind her.
"Isabelle?"
The girl turned to find Snape standing creepily close behind her. Exasperated, Sirius turned around, gesturing wildly with his wand as if casting a spell.
"Be gone Snivellus!"Shooting Sirius a filthy look, Snape continued,
"Lily and I have agreed to study at 1pm tomorrow afternoon. Please do not be late. I will see you then." And turned on his heel, not waiting for a response.Isabelle looked slightly taken aback but brushed it off, remembering agreeing to study with him at the quidditch tryouts. Sirius on the other hand stared daggers into Snape'a turned back, one, dark eyebrow arched.
"You and Snivellus?" He questioned disapprovingly.
"Yes, I promised to study with him a while back. Have you got a problem with that?" Isabelle replied, not willing to be put off her plans by Black.
"Yes actually, I do."
"Aw is the Sirius Black jealous of Severus Snape?" Isabelle asked, smirking.
"I know I tease him and all that but it's not malicious. I don't think he's a good person, Iz and I don't want you getting hurt."
"I'm sorry you feel that way Sirius, but Severus has never done anything bad to me so there's no valid reason I should blow him off. I'm sorry, but I just won't. See you later Black." Isabelle gave Sirius a small smile before picking up her bag and walking out of the Great Hall, quickly pursued by Lily.
Once the two girls had left the hall, Sirius turned to James, who had overheard the entire conversation. "We're coming with them right?"
"Of course. I'll bring the disguises. Don't worry Lily! I'll save you from the greasy git!" Exclaimed James.
Sirius laughed half-heartedly along but deep inside, something felt weirdly wrong.
