What no one wanted to hear

*Back to present day*

No Pov:

Y/n: Oh god... No...

We were all frozen in fear when we saw the Colossal Titan. We just stood there and looked at him while he looked at us. None of us noticed that the titan's hand was in the air and it slowly started to descend. I attempted to push them away from it, but it was too late.

The Colossal titan's arm was able to knock us off the wall. Everyone was able to hang onto the wall due to their ODM gear, but Y/n and another cadet were still falling.

Eren: Y/n! Get onto the wall!

Y/n: I-I can't reach the trigger! Get the other guy! He's unconscious!

After I made that remark, Sasha dropped to rescue the cadet. She shot one of the anchors into the cadet's calf and the other to the wall. Y/n winced in pain when he saw that. Y/n continued to attempt to reach for the trigger.

Y/n: *Panicking heavily* Shitshitshitshit! Almost... Almost... *Grabs the trigger* Got it!

Y/n was able to grab one of the triggers and shoot the anchor at a nearby house to help save myself.

Connie: Y/n! Are you okay?!

Y/n: Ya I'm fine! I'm going to go to the base to make sure everyone is ready!

Connie: Ok Y/n! Just hurry and make sure all the Cadets are ready!

Y/n: I'll be quick!

When Y/n got there, he noticed that everyone was getting ready. But, he noticed Armin in the corner shaking heavily and he was having trouble connecting it to his canister to his tank.

Y/n: Armin! Come on man, get it together!

Armin: *Trembling* O-oh g-god... If only t-this happened a d-day later... W-we would've b-been out of here...

Y/n attempted to reassure Armin.

Y/n: C-come on Armin! W-we'll survive this... I-I know it...

Y/n was never really good at giving encouraging words to people.

Armin: C-come on Y-Y/n... I can hear it in your voice. You're just as scared as me... Why do you act so fearless?

Y/n just sat there next to Armin just looking at him. Y/n didn't know how to answer because he knew Armin was right.

Y/n: To be honest... I don't know how I can be so optimistic. But, I know Hera will be on her way with the Scout regiment soon. So there's no real reason to panic!

Y/n gave Armin a reassuring smile. Something Armin or anyone else hasn't seen in years. In the past three years, Y/n never really smiled. He'd usually give an obviously fake smile.

Armin: *Small smile* You know Y/n? I haven't seen you truly smile in a long time... Let's survive this so we can enter the scouts!

Y/n: You're damn right we'll join the scouts!

*Small time skip*

After the pep talk Y/n had with Armin, Y/n was paired up with Jean, Marco, and a cadet Y/n never really got to know named Zack. They started to make their way to the front lines when Zack raised a question.

Zack: Ok guys... Who's going to take the lead? Like... Who's gonna make the calls out of you three?

Marco: Why aren't you including yourself, Zack?

Zack: W-well... I've never been good with leading before. *Nervous laughter*

Marco: Oh ok. No worries Zack! I think Jean should be the Squad Leader for the time being.
