Kayo's POV
Nishimura and I went back to my house since we both live together. After my father left my mom, She started to date Mr. Nishimura, Lee's dad. After they dated for a month they decided to live together and that's when the beatings began.
Every afternoon when school ended we would do everything they wanted us to do to try to satisfy them, but nothing would satisfy their hunger for violence. There was no escape for us. We had no one to rely on to keep us safe. No friends, no relatives, no one. We were always alone, only having each other. Until that day with him.
He asked if he could be our friend. "You're an idiot". Two minds alike can finish each other's sentences as they say. We have been with each other for two years now, and during that whole period some people would ask to be our friends but they all eventually left. A rumor had been started about us. It went something like "If you try to be friends with Hinazuki or Nishimura your parents will start beating you. Even a glance will cause your parents to yell at you."
People should know that just because a person tells you something doesn't mean it's true. Anything can be a lie. Anyone can betray anyone. The lies continued to fly around like wild fire and the person who started the rumor was their first friend. They were all getting along with each other well but then things started happening to their friend, and because of this she stopped talking to them and spread the rumor.
People already hated us enough but now that the rumor going around we started getting bullied by a few kids for "putting a curse" on them. Now not only were we being beat by our parents but now we were being beat up by the kids at our school.
So when Satoru asked to be our friend we had to really know if he was going to be our friend or he was just going to manipulate us. "Are you serious? So like, does that mean you'd kill to protect me?". He just stayed silent. "You don't have to answer that." Kayo said. "Guess he was trying to use us."
