This week, the premed club members and I talked about the bake sale fundraising event that I had mentioned a week ago. Yumi set the date to make the baked goods at her place on Sunday since that was the only night she was free. None of the other first years could make it but were able to contribute to getting the materials beforehand, which was contribution enough in Yumi's book.
"They're probably going to the party tonight after this game," Yumi tells me at the stadium. Shiratorizawa was playing against Johzenji, a team known for being insanely athletic and plays for fun. The captain had an undercut and a tongue piercing, so I definitely believed it even before they started playing. I finally bought a school shirt and donned it while cheering along with the crowd.
They once again show their dominance as they win with flying colors.
That evening at 5, I head over to Yumi's place which is off campus but still a quick walking distance from school. She said not to bring anything since she has all the necessary equipment so I just had my backpack with me. I knock on her door, to which I hear footsteps padding on the floor and she opens it up energetically.
"Hey, Y/N! Come on in, welcome to my humble abode," she says, letting me in. I give her a grin and set my stuff down on the dining table.
"Thanks for hosting," I reply.
"Haha of course! Not that we really had a choice since I'm the only one with a kitchen but I'm happy nonetheless."
Soon after I arrive, Shirabu comes knocking. It's only the 3 of you tonight who signed up so it's a small but intimate event.
"Alright let's get crackin'!" Yumi pipes up, excited. "The freshmen all dropped off the flour and other ingredients, and as a baker myself I have a lot of nice equipment that'll make our lives so much easier when making these macarons."
Our goal was to make 250 purple taro macarons and 250 earl grey macarons to represent our school colors. It's less than I would have expected but this first fundraising event was to test the waters and see if it'll actually get us a lot of revenue.
"I'm impressed you have the energy to do this after your game," I say to Shirabu. He shrugs and replies, "I think it'd look bad if I didn't come and I want to anyways. We've never done this before so it'll be interesting to see if it's successful or not."
At first, when we start putting together the precise amount of ingredients, the room is tense and quiet.
Yumi then exclaims, "What's with this mood? Let's try to have some fun while we work. I'll put on some music!" She gets her speaker and starts blasting "Racing Into the Night". Yumi starts to dance around, getting flour everywhere. Shirabu smirks slightly and his head starts to bob to the beat while mixing, and I just start laughing at the two. The tension seems to dissipate from then on.
"I didn't know you were into Yoasobi, Yumi-senpai," I grin.
She replies mid-dance and mid-mix, "But of course! She's only the most popular artist in all of Japan and all her songs are freaking BOPS! Am I right or am I right, Kenjiro?"
That's the first time I heard her use Shirabu's first name but when I look to him, it doesn't seem to phase him. "Yes, I agree she is a great singer."
"And she's really pretty, too. Don't you think?"
Shirabu shrugs. "I don't know. She's not really my type."
Yumi hums. "Uhuh ok. If I were a guy I'd totally be obsessed with her. Woop, gotta run to the bathroom, I'll be right back." She skips off down the hall and the entire time Shirabu follows her with his eyes.
