Chapter 17:
Duncan's POV:
I sighed. Channel surfing wasn't fun when your only companions were two children. Skylar wasn't watching and the charmander-I mean lizard (dubbed Charlie) was eating flies.
The doorbell rang. I checked my watch and yelled, "It's open!"
Two minutes later, Cameron came into my house, holding shopping bags.
"Any news?" he asked me, putting down the bags and picking up Skylar. She giggled and poked him.
"Nah. Last night James celebrated our one month anniversary alone in a restaurant with his phone opposite him so we could talk," I muttered, blushing.
Last night was our one month anniversary. James was still in Spain. He had no idea when he heading back as his parents were scouting out property. He went all romantic with dinner and everything but he was by himself. I sat in my pajamas, eating a burger and watching some action movie. He called me so we could talk but I wasn't really paying attention. The movie was captivating.
Cameron's also been coming over everyday since they left. He keeps an eye on the kids. They adore him. We've also learnt to tolerate each other, which is a good thing.
Right now he plopped beside me and sighed, "This kinda sucks. They've been gone for so long. I've never even seen Casey more than twice."
Oh yeah, Cameron and Casey are dating now.
I shrugged. My phone rang. I looked at it tiredly. I didn't feel like moving. Cameron glanced at me, rolled his eyes and reached over, plucking it off from the table and answering it.
"Nope, not Duncan. Your turn to guess," said Cameron with a grin. I snatched the phone off him.
"Hi James," I said.
"Duncan! Hey honey-bear," purred James on the other end. He's taken to being much more romantic now that we're not actually together. He claims to like it better that way as every time he looks at me, he gets nervous.
"Nice of you to call. How was your night?"
"Terrific. I spent it at the restaurant and then I went for a walk and came home at eleven to find my parents making out on the couch."
"Yowzer."
"I know. Yours?"
"Meh. It could've gone better. I spent the entire night watching reruns of olden day action movies."
"Oh..."
"Yeah."
"Do you miss me?"
"Of course I do."
"I miss you like the sun misses the day."
"Weird but sweet."
"Man, I am so frigging angry right now!"
"Mood swings? I didn't know you have that time of the month."
"Ha ha. I meant angry at the situation. I'd rather be telling you these corny things while snuggling up to you."
"James, you feeling okay?"
"Better than ever. Last night, as I was walking, I realized I did love you...and I wanted to tell you that. So here goes, I love you Duncan Dukeson."
