I sat up in bed, breathing hard, my heart racing. I felt sweat on my forward and I pulled back the covers. I moved to sit on the side of my bed. I sigh, chuckling a bit as I replay the dream in my head.
"Like that's ever going to happen." I breathe out, standing up. As I do, I look at the clock and sigh in disappointment.
2:45.
Another sleepless night because of that girl. She had been in my dreams for the past week and a half. She was beautiful, gorgeous even.
And way out of my league.
Also, a figment of my imagination, which really put a damper on things.
I made my way to the bathroom in my room. I walked in and looked in the mirror.
My wavy black hair was tangled from having slept without it up. I had bags under my blue eyes that almost took away from the amount of acne scars on my chin, nose, and forehead. The scars stood out in stark contrast against my pale skin.
I sighed, turning on the shower. I started taking off my pajamas, grimacing as I noticed the stretch marks on my stomach and legs. I hopped in the shower, letting the warm water flow over me.
As I showered, I thought back to the girl. The way she had looked at me made me feel like we had known each other before that for a long time. There was a familiarity in her eyes that only spoke of knowing one another well, maybe too well.
I heard footsteps pad into the bathroom and looked at it around the shower curtain.
"Hey, Lucky." I greet as my cat jumps onto the counter, curling up so that her black, fluffy tail curled around her. Her piercing green eyes stared at me from below her tail. "I'll be out in a sec and I'll grab you some food, kay?"
She closes her eyes, which I take as an affirmative. I move along with my shower, washing my hair and shaving. When I finished, I stepped out of the shower, grabbing two towels, wrapping one around my body and the other around my hair.
I walk back into my room, heading towards the closet. I walk in, grabbing a pair of sweatpants with UCLA on them and a black t-shirt. I walk over to my bureau and grab underwear and a bra. I change into my clothes and head out into my living room.
First, I head into the kitchen, feeding Lucky and my other cat, Sammy. I grab a water out of the fridge and start looking in the cabinets for something to eat. I find a bagel and put it in the toaster. I grab the cream cheese out of the fridge, then lean on the counter to wait for the bagel. Once it pops, I spread the cream cheese on it, then head out to the living room.
I sit down on the couch, grabbing the remote and turning on the T.V. I start flipping through channels, managing to find a funny show. I sit back and start watching the show, killing time until I had to leave for class.
At least, that was the plan.
As I'm settling in, someone knocks on the door. I sigh, standing up and walking to the door. I get to the door and look through the peep-hole. I see my best friend, Piper, standing outside. I open the door, my eyes rolling as I did.
"Hey, Pipes." I greet as she walks in, going over to the couch and plopping down on it. I close the door and head over to her. "Oh, no, make yourself at home."
"C'mon, Mack, you know love me." She announces, spreading out on the couch. She lays down, pulling a blanket over her shorts and sweatshirt pj's. Her blonde hair spread out across the couch as her brown eyes closed.
"Really starting to regret that. And stop trying to sleep on my couch." I grumble, sitting back down on the couch and grabbing my bagel. I take a bit and look over at her. I slap her thigh, making her grumble and kick me. I glare at her, sitting back again."Why are you here?"
"I knew you weren't having a good night, sleep-wise." She states, turning her head towards me. "So, I decided to come check on you."
"You really didn't have to do that." I say, smiling apologetically at her. "I would've been fine-"
"Without me checking on you, blah, blah, blah. I don't care." She says, sitting up and heading towards the kitchen. "You want tea?"
"Yes, please." I say, smiling at her retreating form.
"I treat you too good." She grumbles as she walks into the kitchen. I chuckle, smiling down at my bagel. "You owe me coffee!"
"No, I don't." I yell back, standing up and heading into the kitchen. She's filling up the kettle with water when she looks at me with a raised eyebrow. "After all of the coffee I've both bought and made for you, you owe me tea."
She puts the kettle on the stove and turns to me. She smirks and crosses her arms, leaning on the counter.
"So, was the redhead in the dream again?" She questions, her eyes mischievous. I groan and nod, pulling myself up to sit on the counter. "What happened this time?"
"We were on a cliff. We were talking. She kissed me. We fell." I summarize, not wanting to expand much more.
"Ooh, tough break, dude." She tries to sound sympathetic, but I can tell she's too tired to put all of her energy into it.
"So, why are you up so early?" I ask, grinning at her. She groans, turning towards the kettle as it started to whistle.
"He's so annoying." She groans, going to the mug cabinet and pulling out two, one for my tea and the other for her coffee.
"C'mon, he's not that bad, is he?" I say, pulling my hair out of the way. I grimace and start to braid it.
"You have no idea." She states, glaring at me. She starts pouring my tea and adding in the tea bags. She adds sugar and motions for me to take it. I tie my braid and grabbing the cup.
We were talking about Piper's boyfriend, and my second best friend, Connor. They had been dating for three years and always complained about each other. But, they never broke up, not even for a minute.
They loved each other.
Now, if only they'd admit that to themselves.
"Oh, I do." I sigh, taking a sip. "I have to listen to you two complain about each other all the time."
"And it's all true."
There's a knock on the door and I feel my eyebrows furrow.
"Were you expecting someone?" Piper asks and I shake my head as I make my way to the door. I look through the peephole and groan. "What's wrong?"
