As I open the door, there is a literal wolf at the door. I sigh, both exasperated and surprised.
"Pipes, is this a friend of yours?" I yell into the kitchen. I look back for a second and hear a thump. I look back and the wolf has collapsed in the hallway. "Really?"
Piper comes out of the kitchen with a confused look on her face. When she sees the wolf, she sniffs the air a little and her eyes widen.
"He's a shifter." She says, rushing over and going to pick him up. I huff, going over as well and helping Pipes bring him into her room. We're able to get him in bed and covered from the waist down before he changes back.
He's muscular, with a six pack and large arms. He has a straight nose and a chiseled jawline. His hair is a light blonde, almost at the point of it looking bleached, but not quite. His eyebrows are darker than his hair, much darker. His skin is littered with bruises and he has deep scratches and bite marks scattered along his chest and most likely some on his legs, from the blood stains beginning to show on the sheet covering him.
By now, Dakota has joined us. She's looking at the man with a calculating eye.
"Get me your first aid kit." She says, kneeling beside him. I nod at Piper as she gets up and heads to the bathroom.
"What are you going to do?" I ask, still standing. I watch the man, trying to see if he shows any signs of waking up.
"I'm going to clean his cuts and patch him up." Dakota says as Pipes walks back in with my first aid kit.
I had suffered more than enough injuries while training to know what supplies I might need. I had everything from band-aids to stitches in there, as well as multiple cleaning agents and more than enough gauze.
Dakota nods as she looks at the supplies. She looks up and gives another nod, saying that she has everything she needs.
"We'll be in the kitchen." I say, grabbing Piper's arm lightly and steering her out of the room. We move to the kitchen. Pipes sits down as I grab us both a bottle of water. "Do you know him?"
"I had to meet with him when we moved here." She answers, taking a sip of water. "He's the beta of the closest pack. I was moving onto their territory, so I had to confer with the Alpha and Beta before I was able to come here."
"What's his name?"
"Aaron, I think. His alpha is James. We'll probably have to call him, so that he can bring the pack doctor." She says, pulling out her cellphone.
"I think he'll be alright." Dakota says, walking in with gloves on. She takes them off, making sure not to get blood on herself.
"Where'd you learn how to do that?" Piper asks, putting her cell away, reluctantly.
"My mom was a nurse. Do you think she'd ever let me leave the house without at least first aid training?" She says, an eyebrow raised.
I smile, standing up and kissing her cheek. When I pull back, she has a small smile on her face. I chuckle, putting an arm around her shoulders and steering her towards a chair. I sit down as well, my arm moving from her shoulders.
"And didn't it come in handy?" I tease, grabbing her hand.
"You guys are so gross." Piper says, covering her eyes and laughing. I stick my tongue out at her, with Dakota laughing at our immaturity.
As the night progressed, we all tried to check on Aaron every hour or so, with conversation stippled in between the check-ups. He didn't stir for quite a while, which worried us a little bit.
For me, it was mostly because I didn't want a wolf pack after me. I could tell it was different for the other two.
Dakota was worried because she was a nurse at heart and didn't want her patient to end up dead or infected with anything.
Piper had a connection to him. First, she was a Wolf. The whole community apparently looked out for each other as long as no one did anything stupid. It was like every pack made up their own pack, like a big ol' family. Second, if he got any worse, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to live here anymore. That this James guy wouldn't let her stay and send her packing.
There was a lot on the line for her.
