"Landlady." I answer, feeling even more annoyed every second. I open the door and greet my landlady. "Hi, Mrs. Daniels."
"Hello, Mackenzie. Do you mind if I come in?" Mrs. Daniels asks, motioning into my apartment. Her voice is gravelly, most likely because she had been smoking for the past forty years.
"No, not at all." I say, gesturing for her to come in. She walks in and heads towards the couch. "If you don't mind my asking, why are you here so early?"
"Well. . ." Mrs. Daniels trailed off, looking over at Piper and scowling. Mrs. Daniels never liked Piper for some reason. "I was getting complaints from Ms. Summa about you being up very early. I just wanted to check up on you."
Bonni Summa was my next door neighbor. Her husband died ten years ago and she still hasn't gotten over it, which is perfectly acceptable, considering it was her husband.
Anyways, she was always able to complain about something, especially when it came to me. Mrs. Daniels came down to my apartment almost every week with a complaint from Ms. Summa. Usually I was able to dissuade her from any serious punishment.
"I have been getting up earlier these past couple of weeks." I say, sitting in one of the chairs across from the couch. "I'm sorry if I've caused Ms. Summa any trouble."
"Oh, it'll be fine. I hope it's nothing too bad keeping you up." Mrs. Daniels says, standing up. I stand up with her and follow her towards the door.
"Just can't seem to stay asleep nowadays." I say, rubbing the back of my neck. Mrs. Daniels nods, opening the door and steps out. Before I can close the door, she turns back around.
"Remember, you have rent due next Friday." She reminds me. I smile at her and nod, making sure she knows I understand. "Try and get some sleep."
"I will. Thanks, Mrs. Daniels." I say, closing the door. She turned around and walked down the hall. I walk back to the kitchen, where Piper had retreated after we stood back up.
"I don't like that woman." Piper announces as I once again lean against the counter and pick up the cup of tea.
"She's not that bad." I say, smiling as I take another sip of the tea.
"She just creeps me out." Pipes states, shivering a bit as she did. I scoff, looking at the clock.
4:45.
I sigh, realizing that I'll have to kill some more time before I head to class.
"Wanna watch a movie?" I ask Piper as I make my way to the living room again.
"Sure, which one?" She answers, looking at me.
"There's that new documentary on the Olympians, if you want to watch that."
Both Piper and I loved learning about mythology and folklore. She was even majoring in Mythology.
"Can we?" Pipes asks, sounding excited. I chuckle, walking over to grab the remote from where I had left it last night.
I turn on the TV, going on demand and finding the documentary.

Approximately two and a half hours later, I sigh, going into my bedroom with Piper, Lucky, and Sammy following me.
"That wasn't too bad. Most of it was accurate. Except for that part where they said Aphrodite was Zeus' sister." Piper says as I walk to my closet. I start going through my drawers, looking for my beanie. I find it and put it on. Piper gives me a look. "Are you sure you're gonna be warm enough in that?"
"I'll be fine, Mom." I answer, teasingly. I shake out my hair and leave it down, making sure to grab a hair elastic and put it around my wrist for later. I look back at her and raise an eyebrow. "Besides, California winters are weak compared to New England winters. Can you drive me home after class?"
"Can't. And how would you know what a New England winter is like? You're from Seattle." She sighs, getting up and starting to walk out of my room. I follow her, grabbing my bag on my way out. I groan, dreading the walk home. She looks back at me. "Sorry, but I have class when you get out, and then I have to get to work."
Piper works at a high school as a teacher's assistant to a French teacher. It paid decently, enough for her to pay half the rent with Connor.
"My sister lives in New York and my twin goes to Harvard. I visit them enough to know what it's like." I say as I walk.
As we walk to front door, I make sure I have everything I need in my bag. Once we get to the front door, I grab my keys off of the hook by the door.
And with that, we made our way to a cafe for breakfast.
As we entered the cafe, Piper walked up to the counter to order for us as I found a table. I pulled out my laptop and typed in my password. As I pulled up my Google Docs, Piper came over and handed me a chocolate chip muffin and iced tea. I thanked her as I pulled up the book I had been writing for the past year and a half.
"How far along are you?" Piper asks as she sips her caramel macchiato. She asked me this everytime we had breakfast together, which was about every two weeks. I ate a piece of my muffin and then answered.
"I'm almost done. Just have to finish the last couple of chapters and then edit. After that, I just have to send it out to a couple of publishers, see if any of them want to actually publish it." I sigh, then take a sip of my tea.
"I'm sure they will. From what you've told me, it's very good." Piper says, pulling out her own computer and pulling up her schedule, most likely.
"Every author makes their book sound good." I say as I start typing away to finish the book.
Over the next two hours, we continued to talk and work as we finished our breakfast. We only left because we both had to get to class. I waved goodbye as I walked towards my lecture on the French Language and It's Historical Importance ( A/N Made up lecture.)
After a couple of minutes of walking, I looked down at my watch and realized I was going to be late for the lecture. I sighed and began running. As I ran, I moved my bag, making sure the strap was across my body.
As I approached a wall, I jumped, my hands grabbing the top and pulling myself onto it. I moved my feet to the other side of the wall, landed and kept running, jumping over and dodging obstacles. When I reached the end of the roof, I jumped onto the next and kept running.
By now I could see the building my lecture was in and I started running faster, jumping and flipping from surface to surface. Finally, I reached the street my class was on and I jumped off the wall I was on, rolling as I landed.
I kept running, dodging and jumping around obstacles. I reached the building and looked down at my watch. I had two minutes to get to the lecture, which was plenty of time to climb the stairs to the second floor.
After I was firmly sitting in the room, I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I had leaned my head back when I sat down and when I lifted it, I saw something . . . unexpected, to say the least.
Because when I looked forward, I saw the girl from my dreams entering the room.
And she saw me, too.
