Louis apologizes first thing Monday morning, right after Harry has survived a horrible weekend with way too much ice cream, crying and self-pity. Not even Niall and Zayn could cheer him up properly, and they ended up watching movies the entire night Saturday, with Harry's head in Zayn's lap and his legs splayed across Niall's, as Harry tried convincing himself of just how okay he is with fuckbuddies. It's not like Louis owes him a relationship or anything.
Louis catches Harry by his locker before first period begins, and already before the older boy starts talking, Harry can sense how nervous and awkward Louis feels.
"Listen Harry, I'm sorry. I had a lot of things going on, and I took it out on you. I shouldn't have. I'm sorry". Even though the lines sound well-rehearsed, Harry can hear the genuineness in the older boy's voice, and he has no desire of fighting with Louis, so he just smiles and nods.
"It's fine, Louis. As you said, we're not dating, and you don't need to tell me stuff like that". He really tries to conceal the hurt in his voice, but judging from Louis' facial expression, he didn't quite succeed.
Louis' head is shaking from side to side, obviously disagreeing with Harry's statement, but it takes a while before the older boy finds the right words, letting Harry stand nervously, fingers fidgeting with the hem of his shirt.
"No Haz," Louis begins, voice trembling a bit, "Even though we're not dating, I shouldn't have overreacted like that. I know you were just trying to be nice, and I could have handled it better. I really am sorry".
Louis is about to reach out and grab Harry's hand, but suddenly remembers the people around them, and his hand falls limp against his leg, leaving them awkwardly standing in front of each other.
Harry believes Louis' apology - it's obviously genuine and maybe the situation wasn't entirely Harry's fault for overstepping - at least Louis doesn't seem to think so, and of course Harry accepts the apology.
"It's fine Lou, really. I shouldn't have pressured you to talk. It's all forgotten, okay?". He offers a smile, and that finally seems to somewhat convince Louis that the two of them really are alright.
Neither of them seems willing to leave, despite no more words being exchanged between them. Louis still seems a bit uncertain of whether his apology was completely accepted or not, and Harry is trying to kill the butterflies, Louis' adorable and genuine apology provoked.
Finally, the bell seems to decide for them, and Harry turns to leave with one last smile to Louis, the hall already emptying around them. He doesn't get far before Louis grabs him by the wrist and turns him around again. "We're good then?".
There's a slight hint of worry in Louis' eyes, and it tugs at Harry's heart a bit, so he smiles bigger and nods. "We're good, Lou". And then, with one last look around, Louis smiles and leans closer to Harry, stealing a quick kiss, before he leaves for class, shoulders looking a lot less tense than when he arrived.
And with that, Harry had accepted Louis' apology, but the older boy's words from the other day seems etched into Harry's brain, and he makes sure to kill every sign of butterflies, no matter how often they resurface.
Him and Louis are fuckbuddies, and that's completely fine - it was just stupid letting himself believe it was more when they agreed it wasn't.
Still, Harry doesn't think he has felt this light since their 'fight' Thursday, and the first two classes pass in a rush, Harry suddenly a lot happier, despite his constant self-reminder of the fact that him and Louis aren't dating, and he shouldn't let himself believe that they could.
When lunch comes around, Harry is met with worried looks from Niall and Zayn, as he never offered a proper explanation for his depressed state during the weekend, but since everything is alright now, Harry feels like he can tell them without burdening them with his sadness.
