"You want me to fucking what?" I ask looking at Jason as if he grew another head, pausing in taping up a box. We've been home for two weeks and right now Charlotte and myself are helping Jason start to pack his and Oli's things for their move. In between the arrests that have been happening, to him being promoted to chief, he's determined to get out of the house as soon as possible.
He asked me to help him pack things in the kitchen and we've been making quick work with getting everything from the kitchen packed when he decides to ask me something that's making me question his fucking sanity.
"I want you to join the police force, well more like hoping you'd join," he answers ignoring the surprise on my face.
"And why would I do that? I doubt they'd let a past criminal become an officer," I chuckle without mirth. He must be out of his fucking mind if he thinks any academy would let me become an officer.
"If it was anyone else I'd probably be out of my fucking mind but considering you helped with bringing down the mafia plus exposing most of the force for covering up their dealings with the mafia, I doubt they'd say no," he answers from his place on the floor as he labels the already taped boxes.
"Still, so long as I have a record and I've been in jail, I doubt it'll happen," I answer as I hand him another box.
"Yeah, about that, we're working on getting your record clean," he tells me and the cup in my hand almost slips out of my hands and I fumble to catch it and it's tightly gripped between my fingers.
"What the hell do you mean you're getting my record cleaned?" I ask as I place the cup onto the island.
"It's shitty what happened to you and you were blackmailed into staying because of Wren so from our standpoint we see that you didn't have a choice," he says with a shrug of the shoulder. "You protected Wren even if you were giving your life away to them for the sake of their business."
"And how the fuck did you know that because I only told Charlotte the truth," I tell him and he only smirks as he glances at me.
"There's a girl on my team that's good with interrogations and she managed to get Kerri to spill everything that happened while you were there," he tells me. Fuck, this can be taken off my record? I'd be fucking clean from all this shit?
"And what happens then? There has to be something more," I say to him waiting for whatever else he has to say.
"Kerri's testimony about you, we've already made arrangements for a judge to listen to the case and we're providing a lawyer. There's no way a judge will say no because if you went to an officer to try and tried to get yourself out of it you'd probably be killed," he says in a matter-of-fact voice and he stands up before opening one of the cupboards pulling out an envelope and handing it to me. "You just make sure your ass is in court a week from today," he tells me as Charlotte walks in.
"I left Oli and Wren upstairs but I've pretty much dumped all of Kerri's clothes into boxes, what are you going to do with them?" she asks Jason as she moves to stand beside me and I wrap an arm around her waist.
"Donation, every single thing is going to donation. Matter of fact if you're done with it, I'm taking them out now," Jason answers as he walks past us and we hear his footsteps going upstairs. Charlotte turns to face me wrapping both arms around my waist, her chin resting on my chest staring at me.
"Is everything okay? It looked like you guys were talking about something serious," she questions in a soft voice, concern all over her face. This woman makes me feel so fucking good, I want to be better for her but not just her, for my brother and our children. I lean down kissing her softly, the kiss not deepening but still filled with emotion. I pull back from her as I wrap my arms around her tightly, my chin resting on her head.
