"Is this your house?" Wren questions in curiosity as he stares up at it.
"Yes, it is. Are you two ready?" I ask him and Jax.
"I'm ready Charlotte!" Wren cheers holding a hand in the air. For the past week Wren was kept in the hospital to ensure his internal bruising went down and his overall physique was all healed. During that week I was thoroughly investigated by the children's services. I had a background check done and they came to my house twice to see how it would be adjusted for Wren.
The room beside mine, I fixed it up as Wren's room and the other guest room will be Jax's but I obviously left it as is because I honestly don't know what he would want in it. I open the door and Wren runs past me into the house. I hear Jax laugh from behind me and even I can't stop smiling when I see his excitement.
"Your house is so big," Wren tells me, his face is in awe.
"The house is big but don't forget, this is also your home to Wren," I tell him as I follow him inside.
"This is my house?" he questions in confusion. I remember that I never really talked with him about the adoption. That day the children's services came, I didn't really explain what it meant to be adopted.
"Wren, let's go sit in the living room. I have to talk to you about something." I hear Jax close the front door and the three of us move to sit on the sofa. I motion for Wren to sit beside me on the two-seater sofa, and Jax sits in front of us on the small coffee table. I worry that it might not hold his weight and if it breaks, well that would be a funny sight to see.
"Wren, do you remember that day in the hospital when I said that you would be staying with me?" I watch as he thinks for a couple of seconds before his face lights up.
"I remember Charlotte. It was the day the mean lady and man were in my hospital room," he chatters in excitement. I try to smother the laughter that's bubbling to come out at Wren's words. Jax, on the other hand, bursts out into laughter and reaches out to ruffle his hair.
"Yes, Wren, the day there were guests in your hospital room. They told you that they were going to send you away but I stopped them. I told them that I was going to adopt you. Do you know what that means?" I ask him and he shakes his head and looks at me in confusion as to what I'm talking about.
"Wren." Jax's low voice makes the two of us turn our attention to him. "You won't be going back to mom or dad anymore. Charlotte is going to be your new parent," he explains to him.
"I'm not going back to them? They won't hurt me anymore?" Wren questions slowly as he internalizes the information.
"No, you're safe now," Jax answers patting his head.
"Are you going away again?" he asks him. We both look at each other and I nod my head to him that he should take this question.
"I'm not leaving Wren, I promise." Wren stands up, and he throws his arms around Jax. Jax in return wraps his arms around him pulling him close. I let out a small smile, my heart softening at the sight in front of me.
"Charlotte, will you join our hug?" Wren questions turning to look at me. I look at the two brothers but in particular I look at Jax. He watches for my reaction to Wren's request as he moves one of his arms from Wren and holds it out to me. Wren looks at me hopefully and I know that I can't make this sweet child sad.
I slowly move towards the two and the next thing Jax does is pull me by the arms, and I land awkwardly on his chest. I hear Wren let out a giggle and Jax's chest rumbles as he chuckles in laughter. Jax weaves his arm around my body and I settle myself in his hold. I feel the warmth coming from his body and smell the male scent coming off from him. I feel my face heat up when his hand starts roaming my backside, his fingers stretched out as he touches me, until it's right above my butt. What is this man doing? I shove myself out of his arms and I fall back onto the sofa.
