The last week of summer rolled by quickly, Elle hopped out of Tommy's white Camaro on the first day of school and hurried off without him.

The secretary at the office was very nice to her. She got her schedule and went straight to finding her locker.

"Ugh, of course Tommy was late. I only got 5 minutes until class," she sighed.

101, 103, 105, 107...

She looked down another hallway, 'Ah, 202.'

She put in her combination quickly and slid her practice chess board from her backpack into the top half of the locker. Slamming it shut behind her.

"Hey, are you new here?"

Elle turned when she heard the voice, her smooth accent made her brows furrow.

"Yeah, I just moved here from Cross World City last week," Elle smiled.

The girl stuck her hand out, "Well I'm Kat, and don't worry about being the new kid it rubs off fast. I'm from Australia."

"Wow, I was wondering where the accent was from."

Kat chuckled, "Oh everyone does, here I'll help you find homeroom-"

"Hey Kat," Tommy said, walking up to the girls.

Kat smiled and grabbed Elle's schedule.

"Elle, can you seriously not find friends that aren't my friends? I don't want you tagging around everywhere I go."

Elle huffed and rolled her eyes.

"Wait," Kat said, "You two know each other?"

Tommy grabbed the schedule and handed it back to Elle, "This is my new stepsister."

Elle pulled her lips into a tight smile, "She offered to help me Tommy. Do you want me getting lost?"

Tommy rolled his eyes and grabbed Kat by the arm as he walked off, "Go find some other chess geeks."

Kat shot her a sympathetic smile as she was dragged away. Elle rolled her eyes and followed them down the hall, she saw her homeroom at that end of the school anyways.

She made it into Ms. Barneby's room right as the bell rang. She went towards the back of the classroom and sat down in the corner, hoping not to be noticed.

She tried her best to keep up but kept zoning out, thinking back to the 64 squares on the board and how she should open at the next tournament she attends.

Whenever that would be.

Tommy and his friends had disappeared. She didn't see them at lunch, nor did she see them in between classes going to her locker.

She walked the halls quietly. It was kinda nice, being almost invisible. At Cross World City she was always tagging around Ryan, JB, and Kaitlyn. Three of the most popular teens at the school. With Kaitlyn being a reporter, and JB and Ryan teaching karate at the dojo, it was only logical that she would be the mercy chess girl that tagged along with them

And then she became a trooper.

Her confidence increased, along with her skills at fighting. She could thank Ryan for that one. The boy with the blonde hair and handsome fighter had taken her from her red belt to a black belt in less than two years.

She really missed her friends.

Elle walked down the halls of Angel Grove High. She kept her eyes trained to the ground for the most part, but after a while she caught a glimpse of a big poster hanging on the wall.

Vote Tommy Oliver student body president: The Best man for the job.

Elle scoffed and rolled her eyes, but the bright blue poster next to it really intrigued her.

Rocky Desantos for student body president: Forget the rest, vote for the best!

Elle stared at it for a moment.

Rook to block King.

The gears in her head were turning, a devilish smirk appeared on her face when the idea came to fruition in her mind.

As the last bell of the day rang she found herself sitting near his Camaro in the school parking lot. Luckily she remembered to pack a chess strategy book that morning in case she got bored.

"Elle?" she looked up and saw Tommy and Adam jogging over to the car, "What are you doing here?"

"You blockhead, you were supposed to drive me home today. What do you think I'm doing? Waiting for Christmas?"

Tommy rolled his eyes, "Well get in the back, I have to give Adam a ride home first."

"Whatever," she sighed, pulling the seat back and climbing in.

Elle pulled her walkman out of the front of her bag and turned the music up on her headphones loudly.

The ride home she was unbothered, thinking of the poster she saw on the wall and the next most logical move she could think of.

Helping Rocky win instead of her jerk step brother.
