Click.
Elle stirred in her sleep.
Click click.
Elle opened her eyes and checked her alarm clock. 10:34 AM, Saturday morning.
Click.
Elle furrowed her brow and got up, walking over to her window and looking out.
Rocky stood throwing small rocks up at the window. When she opened it, one bounced off the ledge and hit her in the forehead.
"Ow!"
"Sorry! Get dressed, I got a karate tournament in 30 minutes!"
Elle scoffed, "You're just telling me this now? Not yesterday?"
"I thought Tommy told you we had one," He said.
"No! We barely talk on a normal day."
"Fine, just get dressed and get down here," he sighed.
Elle rolled her eyes and closed the window. She went to her closet looking at all the different outfits she could pick out for the day. Pleated skirt... simple top... nice pair of flats.
Click!
Elle rushed to get into the outfit, running a brush through her hair and pushing it back with a headband. Blush, mascara, and lip gloss were shoved into her bag along with a chess book and she was out the door and hopping into Rocky's truck.
"Who's the tournament against?"
"Stone Canyon," he said, "Don't be reading your chess book the entire time, if people are gonna believe we're dating they at least have to see you pretending to stare at me the entire time."
Elle rolled her eyes, "Put on a good show and maybe I will watch."
"Fine," he sighed, "If I get you breakfast will you try and watch?"
"Chocolate milkshake," she smirked.
He groaned, "Fine."
Elle tried really hard to watch. The chess book she was reading wasn't as interesting. Maybe buying it online wasn't such a good idea after all. She sipped on her shake, cheered whenever Rocky made a good move, and even waved to Tommy before he went on for his match.
By the end of it she was exhausted from pretending to be interested.
"Rocky!" she yelled, feigning excitement as she ran up to give him a hug after the match. He was sweaty, but at the same time she could smell his cologne. Was that cedar?
"Hey Elle," he smirked.
She pulled back and placed a hand on his arm, "That was amazing! Your palm-heel strike nearly took him out the first time."
"Since when did you know anything about karate?" Tommy asked, walking up to the two.
"I'm a black belt, remember? I just don't like tournaments."
Tommy rolled his eyes, "Did you come here just for him?"
"Yes," she said curtly, "Yes I did."
"Why?"
Elle rolled her eyes, "Am I not allowed to come support?"
"Not if you're here just to flirt."
"He invited me here Tommy, I can be here just like you can."
Tommy grabbed her arm, "Well it's time to go home."
"But the match just finished, and Rocky was gonna drive me home-"
"Your mom said I have to drive you home."
Elle looked at him with furrowed brow, "They were gone to work early this morning."
Tommy clenched his jaw.
Rocky grabbed her hand making Elle turn to face him, "Maybe you should go with him."
"What about our date?"
"Date?" Tommy asked.
Elle rolled her eyes, "Fine, we were gonna hang out at the juice bar."
"You didn't tell me that."
"I didn't know I needed to confirm my schedule with you."
Tommy grabbed her arm, "Let's go."
She gave Rocky a frown while waving goodbye. Elle looked around as Tommy led her out the door. She hid her smirk, people had their attention focused on the argument.
'Everything goes according to plan,' she thought.
Tommy's camaro engine revved up the road, Elle held tightly onto the seat belt. She sighed and leaned her head back on the seat.
White pawn to D4.
Black pawn moves to compete at D5.
Another white pawn to C4.
Black pawn takes white on C4.
White pawn moves to E4-
"Why are you being so friendly with him?"
"Why are you trying to control what I can and can't do? You're not my dad."
Tommy huffed.
"He's a nice guy who asked me out on a date. Is it so terrible that I'm trying to be happy?"
Tommy bit his cheek, "You barely even know him."
"That's normally what dates are for Tommy," she sighed, "So you can get to know a person, privately."
"You'll still never know the real him," he said.
It was quiet. Almost under his breath when he said it.
"What?" she asked.
Tommy seemed to realize what he said, "Nothing."
Elle stared at him, she felt like if her eyes stayed on him long enough it'd force the secrets out of him.
Elle ran up the steps when they got to the house. Not stopping until she was behind her closed bedroom door.
Elle had secrets. Everyone has secrets. But what secrets could Rocky and Tommy possibly be hiding?
