"Ready?" Liam sat down on the locker room bench beside Nolan.
"I guess," Nolan was fixing his lacrosse stick.
"We are going to win," Liam nodded.
"Of course we are," Corey sat down beside him, sounding unsure himself.
Coach stepped out to do his normal pre-game speech, but Liam wasn't even paying attention. He was more focused on fighting back his claws and the glares from his teammates, despite their claims everyone decided to show up. Apparently, Liam wasn't bad enough to keep them from the game. Minutes felt like hours until Coach finally finished his speech.
"Let's go out there and kick some ass!" Coach screamed.
"Liam," Nolan stomped on his foot to get his attention finally.
Liam shook his head, "I'm ready."
"You better be, Dunbar," Diaz grabbed him from behind, "if we lose, I'll make sure you never play again."
"You really think you can take him," Corey scoffed this time.
"I know I could," he turned and shoved Corey into the locker, but the chameleon shoved him to the ground.
A few of their teammates laughed at Diaz struggling to get off the ground, forgetting that Corey had supernatural strength as well.
They walked onto the field to finally face the Devenford Prep team. Liam about ran back into the locker room. He instantly felt eyes turn onto him and heard whispers immediately. They still hated him; it was years ago, but he smashed Coach's car and now they knew he was at the scene of Brett's death, perfect. He heard them saying rumors that he killed Brett, all about his werewolf senses, and how he was such a freak. He didn't even notice his own rapid breathing as his heart rate sped up. Nolan saw his co-captains claws extend from his gloves and panicked.
"Liam," Nolan whispered.
Liam looked at him in rage, eyes flashing yellow, "get away from me."
Theo watched it go down; Nolan was trying to get him to stop, but it was no use. Mason turned to him, "Theo."
The chimera nodded, "Liam, listen to me."
The beta's head snapped over to the bleachers and instantly made eye contact with his boyfriend.
"Focus, Li."
Liam nodded his head slowly, claws retracted. He looked at Nolan, "I'm okay now."
"Good, we are going to need you," Nolan said through a worried tone looking at the much bigger team.
"We got this," Liam smirked.
After a few snide remarks from some of his teammates, more glares from Devenford, and another pep talk from Coach, they were finally ready for the face-off.
"You won't be leaving this field, Dunbar," Devenford's new captain spat at him.
Liam took in a deep breath, trying to stay in control.
"Come on Little Wolf," he heard Theo whisper.
The referee blew the whistle, and Liam snapped the ball back to Nolan. The other team captain shoved him to the ground; the referee didn't even budge. Great, they even paid off the officials.
Devenford somehow managed to get the ball back already by the time Liam got back on his feet. He saw the ball go across the field and quickly snagged it out of the air to run it down the field.
"Wow, he is actually good," Theo said smugly.
"I taught him everything he knows," Dr.Geyer smiled at the chimera.
