Jennie walked back to her waiting room after the interview, hoping that Taehyung would have left.
Yes, she knew he had seen her and that her attempt at hiding the cigarette had done nothing.
It was like trying to say you hadn't eaten the last piece of cake when you were the one with crumbs around your face.
Pointless.
She sighed as she reached it, pushing open the door.
Looking around, her shoulders immediately stiffened when she saw him sitting there, as if he had been waiting for her to come back.
The sound of the door opening signalled to him that some one was there and he instantly lifted his head, as he met his brown, cat eyed friend.
They stood a moment just staring at each other, Jennie could see different emotions flicker just through his eyes.
Hurt, sadness, pity,
She couldn't even decipher a few.
Their intense eye contact was broken after a moment as he looked away first.
He looked down to his shoes as he let out a sigh.
"Close the door.." he said and she did so, the news would be too bad if someone had heard.
He looked back up and patted the space on the couch beside him for her to sit, and she obliged.
"I won't yell at you, or scold you, or anything, but I just want to know why, you had to do it. I saw your face, you were hiding something. Just tell me why, so I can try and understand" he said as he still faced his shoes, playing with his fingers out of anxiousness.
"There's no reason to it." She said stoically trying to close herself behind.
"Bullshit. " he said as he could feel irritation bubbling within himself.
Taehyung had wanted to be there for her, as her friend, and possible more.
He knew something was going on, he needed open up and try to find comfort in him.
He didn't even need to hear the whole story, he just wanted something, anything, anything from her that could help him help her.
Instead she was just shutting him out and that angered him.
"It's not. It's just a habit I pic-"
"Jennie!" He yelled out in an outburst.
"Please... just let me be there for you. It's killing me to see you like this and I don't even know what's bothering you. Let me help you... just say something anything. I don't need all the details either" he said and she could see an emotion she had rarely witnessed from him in his eyes as he said that.
He was staring right at her, and it was eating at her.
They sat like that for a moment, as he just stared at her, and she sat in silence. He was about to say something once again but stopped as he heard her speak.
"It's all too much.." she said and he stopped to listen to her.
He could see how much she was struggling to say this as he pulled his hand over her own, to provide comfort, clutching it as he moved his thumbs over hers in reassurance.
"What's too much?"
"Everything. I-I can't handle this much anymore" she said as her eyes had gotten watery.
He came closer to her as they now sat side by side, his taller frame towering over her own.
He hasn't muttered a single word, as he waited for her to take her time. He didn't want to rush her into anything, he didn't care if this was all she would tell him today because he saw she made an effort. She would eventually open up.
"The pressure's been getting too heavy. I.. I didn't know what to do" she said as he listened.
"You could have talked to me" he said as she shook her head.
"How could I have? You seemed so happy, you had your dreams in front of you, always smiling. That's you tae, I couldn't burden you with my problems." She said sniffling as tears began to wet her cheeks.
"Hey hey... don't ever think of yourself as a burden. I never want you to feel that way, our deal was never to have secrets, and it still stands okay?" He said as one arm rested against her shoulders.
"Everyone... every single person I know expects me to be perfect. If I fail, I fail so many people. Every one says they don't care if I win or lose, they don't care if I can't do it, but do you see their expressions when they say that? They always expect me to do well and better.
And every time I win, people expect me to get better and so I have to train harder, and if I fail I'm a let down because I haven't failed Any matches before, if I fail now I'm not a truly talented athlete.
Does that cross you. Basketball is a team game, you don't usually take the blame yourself, but for me, the two sports I do is individual. If I fail, it's all on me.
People set my standards way to high, they give me goals I never had that I have to pass so I can prove I'm an actual athlete. My coaches, they know I do two sports, and they expect me to be good at the one they teach. I can't fail at either sport any more. I can't fail for shit. Even a small mistake can cost me so much Taehyung, I don't have that many people to rely on anymore either.
It's so hard for me to do this, especially when so many people have different expectations of you, and you have to please them all. I haven't had a day that I actually pleased myself, you know why? Because I'm always focused on how to get better.
Because that's what everyone wants. That's what they want. It's not about what I want anymore, it's about them. Always!" Jennie said as she turned into a sobbing mess in his arms.
Taehyung couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Is this what she had been dealing with? Did these effect her so much.
He was astonished he hadn't noticed this before. He didn't know what to say either.
They had very different career lives to, he had no idea how tough things were for her.
All he knew now, was that he would always be there for her.
Just like he was now, holding the girl in his arms as he muttered reassuring and nice words to her, so that she could be comforted by him.
Because that's what he wanted to do.
Because he loved her.
And he meant it.
