Virgil's POV
I looked in the mirror. For once I actually sort of liked how I looked. The black heeled boots looked nice, and my hoodie went well with my black pants. Mostly, though, the action was on my head. I'd worn the purple studs Remy bought me and put on a subtle yet complex makeup look. I'd of course kept my usual black eyeshadow, but it was subtler now. On top of the concealer hiding my freckles, I'd added a slight shimmery, silver blush. Then, I topped it off with some mascara, purple and black eyeshadow spreading from the inner corners of my eyes, and some thick but quiet eyeliner.
I pulled out my jewelry box and selected a black, faux-diamond ring and a Nightmare Before Christmas charm bracelet. Finally, I put on the storm cloud necklace my little sister Violet bought me for my 16th birthday. I smiled, remembering how her eyes lit up as I put it on for the first time.
My thoughts were interrupted by someone knocking on my door. Figuring it was Logan, I grabbed my small black messenger bag and swung it over my shoulder. In it, I'd packed my meds, a pair of headphones, my phone, and my inhaler. Opening the door, I saw Logan. So I was right. He wore a black button up and grey pants, along with a pair of Doc Martens. Nice.
He cleared his throat, making me tear my gaze away from his Rubix cube themed tie. I noticed he'd brushed his hair, and I could smell a hint of cologne. "Should we leave? Or would you rather go alone?" I shrugged. "We can go together." I brushed past him, shutting off the light in my room. He'd already closed the curtains and shut off the kitchen and living room lights. I opened the door. "Coming?" Logan nodded, following me out. Once we were out, I closed the door and locked it.

Immediately I felt the cold air hit my face. How is it so chilly in August? There weren't many people, thankfully. And Janus and Remus were nowhere to be seen. That's a relief. I let my shoulders relax a little. Maybe tonight won't be so bad.
A guy in a white shirt and red blazer walked over. He bowed gracefully. "Hello, Logan. Who's this?" He looked at me curiously. I waved. "Hey, princey." "This is Virgil Lament, my dormmate. Virgil, this is Roman." Roman glanced from Logan to me to Logan. "Virgil?" Logan nodded. "I think I've heard of that name before.." I felt my heart beat faster. Please don't remember me. Before he could ask any more questions, Logan piped up.
"How many people will be attending?" Roman looked around. "Oh, maybe twenty?" He shrugged. "I only originally invited a few people but, you know how that turns out." He laughed. "They invite a plus one, they invite some others,.. and pretty soon everyone is talking about it." But funnily enough, he didn't seem bothered by this at all. Roman always did like attention, after all.
"Roman!" A guy with strawberry blonde hair in a pale yellow skirt walked over. His nails were painted light blue with white polka dots, matching the shirt he wire tucked into his skirt. I couldn't help but notice the cat-patterned leggings he wore, tucked into cream flats with a cat face drawn on the front.
"Patton!" Roman grinned, greeting his friend. "Logan, Virgil, meet Patton Baker. Pat, meet Logan Wright and Virgil Lament." Patton stuck out a hand. "Pleased to meet y'all!" I nodded to him while Logan shook his hand. "Pleasure to meet you, Patton." He gave him a brief smile. Patton returned it with twice the enthusiasm.
"Say, I love your makeup!" he exclaimed. I suddenly remembered what I was wearing. "D'oh- I, uh, thanks. You too." I looked at him. He had on pastel blue eyeshadow behind his round glasses and a dusting of pink blush, matching the lipstick he wore. "Thank you, kiddo!" He giggled. Who is he calling.. kiddo? I shook my head. Weird.
Logan's POV
While Virgle and Patton chatted, I surveyed the crowd. There were maybe 10 other people now. One of them, I recognized. It was Remus, Roman's twin brother, walking over, some other boy in tow. As they got closer, I noticed he had unusually coloured eyes. Amber? I'd only seen animals, mainly owls and other birds, with amber eyes. Remus bounced over with him, wearing what could only be described as a Luigi-inspired outfit, if Luigi was put in dark mode.
"Hello, everyone!" Remus waved excitedly. The boy next to him waved as well. "Roman, mind introducing us?" Roman rolled his eyes. "Guys, this is Remus, my brother, and his.. boyfriend, of sorts, Janus. Remus, Janus, meet Patton, Logan, and Virgle." Once the name 'Virgle' left Roman's mouth, the group went quiet. Remus and Janus were looking at each other, as if they somehow knew each other.
Roman glanced between the three. "Uh, hello?" Remus tore his gaze away from Virgle. "Nice to meet you, dorks?" He cackled, throwing his head back in laughter. Janus looked at Logan and Patton. "Salutations." "Greetings," I responded, shaking his hand. I noticed he wore yellow gloves. I kept that in mind.
Virgil's POV
Holy sh!t. Holy. Sh!t! He didn't tell me Janus was gonna be here! Remus I could've handled, I figured he'd be drunk and I'd just avoid him for the night. But both him and Janus? No way. No way was I escaping this. Stupid, stupid Logan! Stupid Roman. Stupid me for accepting the invite! God, this was gonna be a rough night.
Janus broke the silence. "Say, how long does this party go again?" Roman checked his phone. "When people leave. Given that it's about 9 now and we all have things to do tomorrow, I'd say it'll end by 11." Good. Just two more hours to suffer. I sighed quietly. "Virgle?" I looked up. "Huh?" Logan was giving me a concerned look. "Are you alright?" I rubbed the back of my neck. "D'uh- yeah, yeah I'm fine." I gave him a thumbs up. But I wasn't.
~ time skip ~
I spent the rest of the party stuck in my mind. I occasionally socialized, but it was half-hearted, and I forgot the interaction right after it ended. 11 my ass, Roman. It was closer to 12. But, people were at least starting to leave now. There were only about 10 or so people left, including me. I looked around the crowd for Logan.
"Who're you looking for?" I jumped, turning around to see Patton. "Oh, hey. Uh, Logan. He's my dormmate," I explained. Patton nodded. "I think he was by the ladder, probably waiting for you." I nodded. "Thanks." "No problem!" He smiled brightly. I started to walk away. "Oh, before you leave," "Huh?" I turned around. "Can I get your Snap or something?" Really? He wanted my Snap?
"Oh, uh, sure. I'll text it to you if you wanna give me your number?" "Sure!" Patton smiled, and I had to stop myself from smiling back. Man, his happiness is contagious. He wrote down his number and handed it to me. "Bye Virgil!" I waved. "Bye." Now, off to find Logan.
I pushed my way through the crowd, although it wasn't hard. There was only about 8 people or less left now, but there sure was a mess. I saw Roman cleaning up with the help of Patton and some other guy. I walked over to the ladder, where Logan was waiting, arms crossed nonchalantly. "Hey." His lips twitched like he was hiding a smile. "Hey. We headin' back?" I asked. He nodded. "I already told Roman we were leaving." I nodded. "Got it." Finally, the night was ending. I climbed down the ladder, looking forward to tonight's sleep.
