Virgil's POV

When we got back, the first thing I did was change the sheets on my bed. I replaced the navy blue bedding with a black satin sheet and matching pillowcase. I topped it off with a few extra pillows in purple and black cases, all satin of course. I hated the way cotton felt on my skin when I slept. It set off my sensory disorder badly. I added a thin black blanket, then a heavier, soft Nightmare Before Christmas themed one.

Once I fixed my bed, I pulled out the build-it-yourself nightstand I'd bought from a knock-off IKEA store. I pulled out the instructions, but immediately got too frazzled and confused to read them. I sighed, tossing them to the side. Suddenly, an idea popped into my head. Should I? I shook my head. I didn't want to bother him. But.. this nightstand definitely wouldn't build itself.

I stepped into the living room, finding Logan on the couch again. Deep breaths, Virgil. I cleared my throat, gaining his attention. "Hey, uh, hey Logan?" I tried not to stammer, but failed. Shit. "Yes?" he asked, lifting his gaze from his keyboard. I cleared my throat again, hoping it would help. "Are you uh, any good at assembling nightstands, by any chance?" He closed his laptop and said it aside. "Provided you have the instructions, I'll likely be able to help." I nodded and grabbed the instructions, gesturing for him to join me in my room.

Logan's POV

I followed the purple-haired boy into his bedroom. I usually try not to snoop, but I couldn't help taking a quick peek around the room. Lots of black. Virgil handed me the instructions, which I quickly began to read as he pulled out the pieces necessary to build it.

After giving the instruction sheet a thorough reading, and making sure we had all the pieces, I began to build the furniture piece. Thankfully, it came with the only necessary tool, a flat-headed screwdriver of the perfect size. It took about 15 minutes to complete.

"There you go." I gave Virgil a tiny smile. "Thanks." He glanced at the clock behind me. "Hey, it's almost 6. Should we.. eat then get ready?" He suggested. I shrugged. "If you would like to." He gave me a thumbs up. "Cool." We walked into the kitchen together, each of us prepping our own meals. I had stir fry and steak I'd made the night before, which I reheated in the microwave. Glancing over at Virgil, I noticed he simply prepared a cup of instant noodles.

"Isn't that.. not very nutritional?" I queried. Virgil shrugged. "Usually I add some vegetables or something to make up for it, but I didn't go shopping for those yet." I nodded. We sat at opposite ends of the small table, eating in silence.

After a few moments, I decided to break our silent spell. "So," Virgil lifted his gaze, but kept his head down. "What're you majoring in?" He took a moment to swallow before answering. "Poetry. You?" Interesting. "I'm pursuing a double bachelor's in chemical science and philosophy." Virgil nodded. I racked my brain for something else to say.

My eyes settled on his utensils. Perfect. "I noticed you're using chopsticks. Are you of Asian ethnicity?" He cocked an eyebrow. "Surprised you noticed. My paternal grandfather was Korean, and taught me to use chopsticks before I could use a fork." I nodded. "Interesting."

Virgil stood up and took care of his dishes. Or, rather, threw away his cup and disposable chopsticks. I cleared my plate into the trash and set my dishes in the sink. Catching Virgil's glance, I assured him I'd do them by the next day. "I usually do them right after, but it's almost 7." He nodded, heading to his room - presumably to get dressed. Unless he was wearing what he had on? That got me thinking. Should I change? I opened my phone and sent Roman a Snap featuring my current outfit, captioning the photo "change or stay?" He replied within seconds.

princeyofurdreams: change, but nthn too formal

princeyofurdreams: maybe that outfit u wore 2 the bk signing last week?

robotwithoutaheart: you mean the book signing with Meg Cabot?

princeyofurdreams: yh that 1

princeyofurdreams: but sum other tie. that 1 was horrendous

robotwithoutaheart: like your spelling?

princeyofurdreams: touché, microsoft nerd

princeyofurdreams: c u @ 7:30

robotwithoutaheart: see you then.

Turning off my phone, I walked to my room. I opened the closet and laid my outfit on the bed. "Let's hope this isn't a total bust," I muttered.

heyy y'all! fun fact this is the 3rd chapter i've written today lol. sorry it's sort of short (but it's still way longer than I intended) this was more of a filler chapter to add something between the last chapter and the one abt the party, which is why it's pretty uneventful. but I have sprinkled in a little analogical, and what could be interpreted as either romantic or platonic logince 👀

hope y'all enjoyed! next chapter will be up shortly after this one.

A/N: editing phoenix here, I'm trying not to edit this too much but i noticed a passage that i didn't like. after virgil mentioned being part Korean i wrote smth that was supposed to show logan as observant but basically just.. perpetuated a stereotype i feel like? idk. sometimes i look back on my writing and im like, i get you were trying to be inclusive but king that was not how to do it lmaooo
