"Three?"  Rain poured to the ground as Eight stood in her doorway, staring down to her old friend. Rain poured down behind them. The short green-haired inkling peered up at 8 from her black umbrella. Her pink eyes were surrounded by dark circles, and her clothes looked dirty. Her pale skin looked grey in the stormy weather.
"Three...Come inside. You'll get burned."
Eight gestured for Three to enter the house. If their squid parts touched the water, their ink would dissolve, causing a sick burn on their tentacles. Three didn't say much, just a simple "thank you." as she took her boots off inside the house.
"Don't mention it. I haven't seen you in months! where have you been?" A worried expression from Eight caught Threes attention. The octolings amber eyes were wide with concern.
"I had to go visit my parents for awhile. y'know. Just gotta get away from home sometimes." Eight showed a doubtful look as Three turned her back. She knew that 3 had never had a good relationship with her parents. why would she suddenly want to see them now? And why did she move all of her stuff out of her house into her parents? Eight shook the thoughts from her head. It was rude of her to be in another squids business.
"You look like you don't have anywhere to go. you're free to stay here as long as you'd like." Eight smiled at the inkling. Three was now walking down the hall to the kitchen with her.
"Thank you, Eight. Is there anyway i can repay you?" Three asked. Eight shook her head, glancing over to her friend.
"You're my friend," a loving look gleamed in her eyes. "I would never make you repay me for anything." Eight smiled. Three felt a warmth when she was around Eight. The way she talked to her so gently made her tense mind loosen a bit. The octoling pulled her tentacles up behind her head, wrapping a rubber band around the clump of inky antennae's. Three entered the kitchen soon after Eight. The light baby blue walls, and white tile floors looked vibrant in contrast to the gray clouds that crowded the sky outside. Three sat down at the small table for three in the dining part of the room, Eight sat across from her with two cups of tea in her hands.
"Tea?" Eight asked.
"...Tea?" Three echoed. "I've never had tea before..." She trailed off. Eight gasped dramatically
"You've never had tea?! You're missing out!" Eight poured the hot liquid in one of the tea cups, and handed it to Three. Three examined the beverage, swishing it around as if it was poisonous. Soon enough, she took a sip of it. But she spat it out almost immediately.
"HOT!" She exclaimed. Eight tried her hardest not to giggle.
"y-you hav..." She tried started to snort in bursts, fighting to hold her composure.
"You have to wait for it to cool down!" Eight finally got the words out, bursting out in a great laughter.
"I'm sorry Three!" She apologized in between laughter, Three's face red with embarrassment.
"You could've warned me." Three tried not to smirk a bit. Eight finally caught her breath.
"Okay." She panted, grabbing some paper towels for the inkling.
"It should be good now. Try the tea." Eight helped soak up the mess on the table. Luckily, no tea got onto Three's clothes. As Eight tossed the dirty paper towels in the trash, Three attempted to try the drink again. She took a small sip, then another.
"It's...Its good." She looked genuine, taking another sip of tea.
"See? It's good! There's so many different kinds, too. Humans used to drink them to help them sleep and stuff. they don't do as much for us, though." Eight went on. Three never understood her obsession with humans, although it was interesting. Perhaps it had something to do with the 'human' statue Eight fought on? Three shook the thoughts from her head. She didn't want to remember those days. Especially what she did to her friends.
"So, Wanna talk about what happened?" Eight had a more serious look on her face. The sudden mood change made Three's stomach turn.
"About me leaving? I just needed a break from being an agent." Three assumed Eight had caught on that she wasn't fully telling the truth.
"Oh. Why didn't you tell me? I could've helped you pack." Eight sat down across from Three. A look that said "No pressure though" Gleamed on her face.
"I uhm..." Three trailed off.
"It's okay if you don't wanna talk about it. I was just surprised when you didn't tell me." Eight shifted in her seat.
"Sorry, Eight. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Three looked down, breaking eye contact.
"No don't apologize. You're fine!" Eight smiled. Three looked back up at her friend, a green tint on her cheeks.
"uhm..Thanks." She replied. Eight took a sip from her cup.
"It's getting late, let's figure out where you'll sleep tonight." Eight stood up, grabbing the tea cups and walking over to throw them in the sink. Three stood up as well, yawning. She hadn't gotten sleep in awhile. Maybe tonight she could finally loosen up enough to do so.
