Chapter 3

Kynn’s POV (while she was unconscious)

I opened my eyes, only to see darkness. Where am I, I panicked.  The last thing I remembered…that blond hair!  I scanned by surroundings and stopped, shocked to see a replaying memory.  My memory, to be exact.  I was a prisoner in my own mind.  All of a sudden, I was overcome with flashbacks.

*flashback*

The door opened on a stormy night.  On the steps was a baby like no other, for the child had pointy ears.  Around her neck was a locket of mirthil and white gold.  The woman stood there, shocked.  “An elfling,” she whispered.  The baby opened it's eyes and giggled at the lady, innocent aquamarine eyes sparkling.

“But innocent.” A man came into view.  “And we will raise the poor child as one of our own,” he added firmly.

- Time skip to Kyrnn, age 10. -

Sobbing, she cried before a tree.  "Why do they hate me? Why am I so different?"

A comforting, gentle hand gently soothed her as she wept. Turning around, she buried her face in  her sister's hair. Almeriya stroked her gently. "Wounds will heal with time." she said peacefully.

- Timeskip to Orc raid.-

It had been in the dead of the night when the orcs had struck.  Kyrnn was sleeping peacefully when her mother had rushed in, panicked.  "We're being attacked by orcs!" her mother had cried.  "Hurry and wake Almeriya!"

Kyrnn hurried to her older sister's room.  "Aya, we have to run!  There are orcs attacking us!"

Fearfully the women had cautiously stepped outside their house...only to be greeted by the smell of smoke from burning houses.   Screams and wails filled the air around them.

Suddenly, an orc appeared.  "Where is she? Where is the elf lady's daughter?!"  Beyond terrified, all three had screamed for help as a blade magically lodged itself through the orc's heart.

Behind it stood her father, sword in hand and gasping for breath.  "You must go," was all he said with a sorrowful look in his eyes before he rushed back into the fray of pandemonium.

it was then that it happened.  Both her sister Almeriya and her mother were brutaly murdered by a leering orc.  Shock filled their faces before they collapsed.  "NOOOO!" Kyrnn had shouted.  "Mother! Aya!"

A sudden rage filled her, rage and despair and hatred.  She could feel a humming of power rushing through her.  Glaring murderously at the bloody orc, she spat, "You are going to regret that, you foul creature!" before she snatched a fallen blade from the ground and ran at the orc.  The orcs' eyes widened at the sudden change within her.

Time seemed to slow down as she sped.  She could see the orc trying to predict at the next move, still shocked at her sudden change.  And the change was there.  The air was vibrating, perhaps with magic?  and then the blade pierced the orc's heart - if it had one - before it fell to the ground, dead.

Walking back in a daze to her dying mother and sister, Kyrnn slid down to the ground, tears blurring her eyesight.  "Please don't leave me," she pleaded.  "Please." she whispered.  He sister smiled tenderly.  "Oh, little elf, remember that you are what I cherish most dearly."

"And that I will always love you..." Almeriya trailed off, too weak to continue.  Her eyes drifted shut for the last time.

Her mother opened her eyes with obvious effort.  "Oh, my child, my poor, poor, child.  You must leave us here, and run.  Run to where the monsters won't find you - deep in Mirkwood Forest!"

"But - " Kyrnn was abruptly cut off.

"We always warned you away from there for a reason, but the time has come..." her mother took a shuddering breath.  "You know we are not you're true parents, and that they are still unknown to us...the orcs- th-they were after y-you."  Her strength obviously failing, she continued.  "You... are destined to be the Witch King's nemesis.  Only you, and you alone...can stand  up to the full force of t-them."  With that, she sighed and closed her eyes.  "Be brave, my child.  Be strong as mirthil.  And know that you are never alone."

Taking a final breath, she stared up at the sky.  "I can see the Valor," she murmured softly.  And then her eyes closed.

Kyrnn took a deep breath, trying to be brave for the sake of her fallen family.  Her father was still alive, she reminded herself.  Turning around, she stopped in horror.

 That was when Kyrnn snapped.
