Chapter 5

"Impossible,"Kyrnn whispered. Eyes hungrily seeking her family's figures, she stepped forward. Her mother stared at her serenely. Her father, eyes filed with love. And her sister, smiling calmly.

Slowly, she got unto her knees, and then stood up in a daze. Dreamlike, she walked forward to where her shining family was until they were no more than four feet apart. As she walked closer, she was aware that a background grew and spread behind her family.

It was bright, cheerful, and peace and happiness could be felt in the air. Kyrnn could almost hear a gentle melody being played in the trees, farther back.

Suddenly, her mother spoke. "Come no closer my child, for this is where the shadow borders the living." Her father continued, "Once you step foot in this realm, you cannot turn back, my dearest daughter." Her sister, Almeriya stepped up closer, almost touching Kyrnn.

"My dearest sister, it is not yet your time, nor will it be for a long time. You must fulfill your obligations, and when you have, the Valor will give you a choice."

Her sister continued, "I- or rather, we, must also tell you something. It has to do with the locket that you received."

Finally finding her voice, Kyrnn spoke. "What of it? And how exactly does this relate to m-my future?" She asked, puzzled. Almeriya, better known as Aya, laughed softly. "Oh, it has everything to do with it, sister. Now let us talk of prophecies and power." And so they talked.

Her mother spoke first. "I found you wearing that locket that you have now when you were but a babe. As much as I tried, I could not open it even though there was a clasp."

Kyrnn was now officially confused. "I know this mother, you yourself told me."

Her mother paused hesitantly. "But...what I never told you was that on the day I found you, a bright light surrounded you as you lay upon your swaddle. Do...do you remember, during the orc attack, when those monsters were screaming to find 'prophesied child'?"

"Yes." Kyrnn whispered. Every single detail from that horrible night was still clearly replayed in her head. "I will never forget that night."

Her father spoke up. "The Valor has given us this time to prepare you as much as possible."

"For what?"

"You are the prophesied child, my daughter. No, do not interrupt me; I promise all your questions will be sated when I am through." Kyrnn closed her mouth with an audible click. "You know that you are not human, but of the elven race." Her father continued.

"How could I ever forget?" Kyrnn muttered dryly as she was reminded of all the unfairness and mistreatment she had went through because of her most noticeable non-human trait: her slightly tipped ears.

Her sister spoke up. "We know not of the details, but you and only you will be able to defeat the witch king and face Sauron." She murmured, as if almost in a dream. Kyrnn was now beyond shocked and floored with endless questions.

"I thought Sauron was a myth! And he is known to be the most powerful, evil person in Middle Earth before the valor and the Order of Istari joined forces? How can I, a human-yet-elf, hope to defeat one of the wickedest powerful beings in all of middle earth? I am only a mere child, and am one person at that!" With that final remark, Kyrnn was silent once more.

"You will soon know of your true self." Aya smiled mysteriously. "For it is both a curse and a blessing to know the future too soon."

Her parents intervened. "Our time is up, our precious daughter. The next time we meet, you shall pick a choice - choose wisely, and do not give in to temptation!"

"I love you," were their last words before they disappeared in a ball of bright light, heading further and further away into the shadow. Only her sister remained, just before the border of the dead and the living.

"Ky, you must be strong. Understand? Never give up." And then she whispered the words her mother had said once before. "Be brave. Be strong as mirthil. And know that you are never alone."

Almeriya stood up. "My time is up. I must return to the otherworld. But before that, you must awaken. Now, arise!" With that, she touched Kyrnn's forehead once and disappeared into the light.

As she disappeared, reality dawned on Kyrnn and she cried out. "Sister, don't leave me!"

And then once again she fell unconscious.

Kyrnn's POV

I awoke to feel soft silken sheets and fluffy pillows. Where am I, I wondered, curiously. All I remembered was the flash of blond hair, and those eyes. Blue, like the sky.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and blinked. Then blinked once more. For right next to me was the handsomest elf (forgetting that he was the only elf that I have ever met in my entire life) I had ever seen before.

I could only think of one thing as I slowly opened my eyes yet again.

"Where am I?"
