It had been 10 days since Virat and I had our arguement. He hadn't made an effort to call me, and neither did I. Pride was soon dying and I was aching to hear his voice. I had spoken to Rohit quite recently, but it was a short conversation and work related. I had asked him how Virat was, but he'd quickly changed the subject. Missing him way too much, I decided that I'd call him. I dialed his number and it began ringing. It rang several times, and just when I thought of hanging up, he picked up. There was a few seconds of silence until I said, ''Virat? I miss you.'' I heard his sharp intake of breathe at my words and I almost started crying. ''Zara...I miss you too. How.. How are you?'' he said with an unusual tone to his voice. I frowned at his formality. ''I.. Uh. I've been good. Are you okay Virat? Is everything alright?'' I asked softly. ''Uh.. Yes. Zara, I'm a bit busy right now. I'll..I'll call you later.'' Before I could say okay, he had hung up. Confused, I walked into my room. What was wrong with him? He didn't seem angry at me.. But why was he being so weird? For some reason, I had an unsettling feeling sweep over me. Pushing these thoughts at the back of mind, I sat down to work on my article. Every now and then I'd check my phone for a call from Virat, but I got none. Before going to bed, I sent him a text,
you didn't call. hope everything's ok. I miss you and I can't wait for you to get home. I love you baby xSoon I drifted off to sleep in an old shirt of his. It smelled of him, and like the pathetic inlove idiot I am, I wore it because of that. The next morning, I woke up to a call from Virat.
''Hello?'' I mumbled, barely awake.
''Zara.. Hi. Did I wake you up?'' he spoke a bit nervously.
''Hey babe..you kind of did. But you know I like the way you wake me up,'' I say with a little laugh. He laughs and I realize how much I've missed hearing him laugh. ''I missed you and your flirting.'' he says quietly. ''I know.. I've missed you too. I slept in your shirt last night.'' I mumble. ''Did you now?'' There was short silence looming between us which I cut off short. ''Virat. I.. I'm sorry about that night. I should've received your calls, and I just. I don't know what got to me. I'm sorry. You're so tired after the matches, and yet you still take out time to call me. I just feel so bad. I'm so sorry..I.. I.. yeah.'' I ramble out an apology, looking down. ''Zara. I.. It's fine. I'm sorry. Mujhey asey react karna nahi chahiye tha. And..I don't know how I'm going to make it up to you.. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said all those things,'' he sounded more apologetic than he should have. There was a nervous undertone to his voice which I chose to ignore. ''Virat.. It's okay. Let's just forget about this right?'' ''Yes. Toh how's your project going?''
And just like that we were back on neutral ground, talking about this and that, joking and flirting like we used to. Although, everything seemed fine, Virat seemed unusually anxious and nervous. I failed to put my finger to it, but there was something odd about the way he talked... hmm I hope I'm wrong
