1 month later..
''Zara! Oh my god look at you...my baby.. SHEKHAR! ZARA AUR VIRAT AGAYE!'' My mother took me into her arms as tears streamed down her face. I couldn't help but hold on to her tight and feel my own set of tears fall. ''Maa..don't cry..I'm fine toh.'' She held me at an arm's length and looked at me. ''Zara beta, you need to eat more. It's not just you now..Aur Virat ko bhi kuch khilaya karo!'' She smiled at Virat warmly to my surprise and hugged him.
''Virat beta it's nice to finally meet you after all this time,'' she said.
''Aunty, the pleasure is all mine. Now I understand where Zara's beauty comes from,'' he grinned at her. Oh my god. I couldn't help but roll my eyes when my mother blushed. ''Aunty kya? Mom will do,'' she tells him with instant adoration in her eyes for him. He nods at her and we go in. There he goes, charming the pants off my own mother. I glared at him and he just shrugged. Oh Mr. Kohli, wait till you meet my father.
He looked extremely uncomfortable as this was the first time he'd met my parents and judging by the phone calls he'd had with my father, he was certainly not anticipating the meeting. We called and told my parents about my pregnancy a few weeks ago. As I expected, my father went ballistic, threatening to kill Virat. My mother on the other hand, calmed down after hearing about the wedding. Yes we had set a date. The wedding was going to be in a month's time and hopefully I won't be that huge. Back to the point though, my father was still very much pissed off with Virat mostly about this pregnancy. I don't think I'd ever seen Virat so nervous. It was quite funny if it weren't for the fact that I was really scared to confront my father as well. I loved him to death and I couldn't imagine him not talking to me.
''Mom where's Dad?'' I asked while fiddling with my thumbs nervously as the security team helped Virat bring in our suitcases.
''SHEKHAR! Uffo your father is deaf I tell you! I'll go get him..'' My mother scurried upstairs to find him while I turned to see Virat biting his nails. I secretly smirked at this new side of him. Hmm.. where did all macho Virat go?
''Virat. My father will not kill you. I won't let him. Stop biting your nails!'' I swatted his hand away from his mouth.
''He'll do worse jaan. He's probably going to castrate me! I told you we should've had sex in the plane..it would've been my last time!'' he exclaimed with a pure look of horror on his face.
I couldn't help but giggle but soon stopped when I saw Dad coming downstairs. Fuck. I felt like I was back in high school, awaiting the horribly long lecture and a confirmed grounding after I'd done something way too rebellious for my years. Except I wasn't in high school, I was a full grown adult, I wasn't married yet, but I was pregnant.
As he walked towards us, I felt soft tears fall out of anxiety and I couldn't help but run into his arms.
''Dad!'' I murmured. I used to be really close to him before I left London. Then I got busy with work and barely talked to him anymore.
His hand patted my head and he pulled me off to look at me. For the first time in my whole life I saw tears pool around my father's eyes. I didn't know how to react. His eyes softened at my gaze and he smiled.
''Zara..You know I can't see you cry..you look really beautiful. You're glowing..'' he said referring to that pregnancy glow that I apparently have. My face broke into a smile and I glanced back at Virat. Dad looked at him as well and his stance changed completely. His features hardened and I immediately remembered this face from when he met my first boyfriend when I was 16. Oh Dad..Virat stepped forward and put his hand out, and said, ''Sir. I'm Virat..uh you already know that..I was just-''
''Introduction ki zaroorat nahi hain. Good to meet you Kohli.''
And that was it. His attention came back to me and I glanced back at Virat nervously.
''I have a meeting to attend darling. I'll see you tomorrow. Take care.'' Dad said and walked out of the house, slightly nodding at Virat. I swear I saw him blow out a sigh of relief. He looked so out of control I could laugh. It felt like a rock had been lifted off my chest because I had expected a huge confrontation and that fortunately did not happen. Maybe things were going to go right from now..my eyes fell on one of the discreet armed bodyguards outside. I felt my insides twist in worry. The security intensity kept reminding me that we were still wading in dangerous waters. I was scared for Virat the most..but he wouldn't listen. Speaking of him, I turned to see him standing beside my mom in the kitchen, talking to her about something. He caught my eye and smiled warmly. I felt the butterflies in my stomach all over again. Ah he was capable of bringing so much out of me.
''Mom if you don't mind, I'll take Zara upstairs to rest a bit. The long flight must've tired her out,'' I heard Virat tell my mom.
''Ofcourse beta. I assume you both will be sharing a room right?'' she asked.
I blushed profusely while Virat remained a straight face and nodded.
We went up to my old room and as soon as Virat closed the door behind us, I burst into laughter.
''What are you laughing at Ms. Malik?'' he asked with a grin on his face as he slumped into the bed beside me.
''You. You're adorable and hilarious.'' I wrapped my arms around his neck and brought myself forward to cuddle him. I felt him relax under me and rub my back.
''I honestly thought your dad was going to murder me.'' He muttered with a slight shudder. I giggled and he raised an eyebrow amused.
''You're entertained by all this?''
''Ofcourse I am. Accha..if we have a daughter and she comes home with a boy, how would you react?'' I teased him. He frowned at the thought.
''React? She's not bringing anyone home. Reaction ki chance kabhi nahi ayigi,'' he said satisfied with his answer.
I shook my head at this unbearably overprotective to be husband of mine. I don't know when I fell asleep but the last thing I remember was his soft lips on my neck.
